Facebook released the Facebook Lite app a few days ago. It's been around for a few years on the Android platform, but it's only now making its debut on iOS. Its release is limited to the Turkish market, but it is not excluded that the application will be available in other countries in the future.

The main changes of the Lite versions compared to the full versions are the significantly reduced size of the application as such. While the classic Facebook has grown to gigantic proportions over the years and the application currently takes up about 150 MB, the Lite version is only 5 MB. Messenger from Facebook is no small thing either, but its lightweight version only takes up about 10 MB.

According to Facebook, Lite versions of applications are faster, do not consume as much data, but offer somewhat limited functionality compared to their full-fledged siblings.

A kind of stress test of both applications is currently underway, and Facebook plans to gradually release them to other markets as well. In this case, Turkey thus functions as a test market in which errors are caught and the last remnants of the code are debugged.
