An update to the official Facebook app for iOS has arrived in the App Store today, and although it doesn't look like much at first glance, it's a pretty major update. In its description, we only find a classic paragraph about the fact that the company updates its application regularly every two weeks, and when you turn on Facebook in version 42.0, you will not find any new functions. But the application received important fixes under the hood, which remove the much-discussed problem of extreme power consumption.

The public was informed about the fix by Ari Grant from Facebook, who directly he explained on this social network, what the problems were and how the company solved them. According to Grant, several factors contributed to the extreme consumption, including so-called "CPU spin" in the app's code and quiet audio running in the background that kept the app running continuously even when it wasn't open.

When the problem with the enormous consumption of the Facebook application surfaced, magazine's Federico Vittici Mac Stories he correctly attributed the problem to the constant sound, and Grant now confirmed his hypothesis. At the time, Vittici also expressed the assumption that it was an intention on the part of Facebook to artificially keep the application running and thus allow it to constantly load new content. Editor-in-Chief Mac Stories he described such behavior as a deep lack of respect for iOS users. However, Facebook representatives claim that this was not an intention, but a simple mistake.

Whatever the case, the important thing is that the public discovered the flaw and Facebook quickly removed it. Additionally, Ari Grant promises in a Facebook post that his company will continue to work on increasing the energy efficiency of its app, which is only a good thing.
