Yesterday, Facebook launched a new app in the App Store called sling shot, which is designed to compete with the popular Snapchat service. The essence of the application is to send photos and short videos. If it is Slingshot a mere clone of Snapchat and doomed to fail again, only time will tell. However, the existence of this application is definitely worth noting.

As in Snapchat, you can paint with your finger on the pictures taken by the applications or enrich them with various doodles. The resulting image can then be sent to one or more friends. Slingshot it asks for your phone number when logging in, but surprisingly, it is not necessary to log in via Facebook and the user is not even forced to use this social network in any way.

In one important thing Slingshot different from the mainstream Snapchat. In order for the user to be able to view the media file that his friend or acquaintance sends him, he must first repay him with the same coin. When a user receives a photo, it remains locked until they send their own multimedia reply. Facebook thus essentially forces users to actively use the service and at the same time makes using the application a kind of challenge. As in Snapchat, i Slingshot deletes images and videos after viewing and does not save them to the device. However, the application allows you to take a screenshot.

Slingshot is not Facebook's first attempt to compete with Snapchat. In 2012, when Snapchat had already achieved some fame, Facebook came up with the Poke application, which was based on a similar basis. However, the app was never very successful and had only a meager following, which led to its removal from the App Store in May of this year.

Application Slingshot in the App Store she already showed once, but it was just an oversight and she was immediately taken down. However, now the application is officially released and in some countries it is already free to download from the App Store. However, not yet to the Czech app store Slingshot it has not arrived and we have no further information on when it should happen.
