MSQRD, one of the most popular "selfie" applications on the App Store recently, which managed to turn users not only into a favorite superhero, but also, for example, into Leonardo DiCaprio next to the Oscar statues, has become the latest acquisition of the social network Facebook.

Masquerade (the abbreviation MSQRD derived from it) has become an interesting and funny part of smartphones not only among teenagers. Photos and videos of users who, using this application, took on the form of not only celebrities, superheroes and animals, but also other faces circulated on various social networks. The application works on the basis of built-in filters, which offer users a funny transformation using the front camera (or the main camera).

Despite the speculation that MSQRD will be bought by Apple that surfaced some time ago, the application eventually became part of Facebook. It can be expected that Facebook will want to offer the mentioned filters in its official application. It will complement the existing filters, stickers, gifs and other effects that Facebook has. However, according to his plans, MSQRD will remain in the App Store as a stand-alone.

“We've worked hard to make video and photos fun with specific filters that change your look. We're excited to join forces with Facebook to bring this technology to even more people. With this integration, we can connect with people on a much larger scale.” he announced just a few months old startup in a blog post.

He spoke in favor of this acquisition TechInsider also a spokesperson for Facebook: "Startup Masquerade has created a fantastic MSQRD application that hides first-class video technology. We're excited to welcome Masquerade to our team and continue to enrich Facebook with this experience.”

According to available information, the founders of the application (Yevgeny Něvgen, Sergej Gonchar, Yevgeny Zatepyakin) will work in the London offices alongside the Facebook team. It is still unknown how much Facebook's acquisition of MSQRD cost.
