The long-awaited new version of the Facebook app for iPhone is now available for download on the Appstore. This is no small update, Facebook 3.0 is a completely redesigned original Facebook application. The iPhone finally got a proper Facebook application.

Joe Hewitt announced it on his Twitter and you can install it on your iPhones right now. If iTunes or iPhone tells you that there is still only version 2.5 on the Appstore and does not even offer you an update, just uninstall the application and then reinstall it, the new version 3.0 will already be downloaded.

Joe Hewitt really nailed the new user interface and you will definitely like the new iPhone app. Maybe now I'll even start using my Facebook account more. :)

UPDATE 28.8. – The author promised that in version 3.1 he will focus on the ability to hide certain people from the wall and hide notifications from apps! I'm finally getting rid of quizzes.

But there were also problems. For some, the application is unstable, the application does not display birthdays properly, and above all, a significant privacy bug has appeared. If you have set that certain posts should only be shown to a certain group of people, then this will not be the case with the Facebook application. Posts sent from the iPhone application will be visible to absolutely everyone! The author has already submitted the update to the Appstore, but approval will take some time.

There was also an issue where someone's iPhone stopped working after installing Facebook 3.0 and only an iTunes restore helped! After the first start, the iPhone allegedly freezes and then has to be restarted (hold the Home button + the power button for a few seconds). But even after restarting the iPhone, it doesn't work as it should. The same problem appeared in the discussion below this article. For now, we don't know what caused this problem, whether it's a jailbreak, an older version of the iPhone OS, or something else. Be careful!
