For a relatively long time, there has been talk among apple fans about the arrival of a redesigned MacBook Air, which should be shown to the world this year. We saw the last model in 2020, when Apple equipped it with the M1 chip. However, according to a number of speculations and leaks, this time we are expecting significantly larger changes that could move the device several levels forward. So let's take a look at everything we know about the expected Air so far.

Design

One of the most anticipated changes is the design. He should see perhaps the biggest change and, to a large extent, change the shape of the current generations. After all, in connection with these speculations, a number of renders with possible changes have also surfaced. The premise itself is that Apple could go a little crazy with the colors and bring the MacBook Air in a similar vein to the 24″ iMac (2021). Purple, orange, red, yellow, green and silver-grey processing are most often mentioned.

The renders also show us the thinning of the bezels around the display and the arrival of the notch that first appeared in the case of the redesigned MacBook Pro (2021). But other sources say that in the case of this model, the cut-out will not come, so it is necessary to approach this information with caution. In any case, what slightly touched many apple lovers were the white frames, which may not be to everyone's liking.

Connectivity

One of the biggest innovations of the aforementioned MacBook Pro (2021) was the return of some ports. Apple users got HDMI, MagSafe 3 for charging and a memory card reader. Although the MacBook Air will probably not be so lucky, it could still expect something. There is speculation about a return to the MagSafe port, which takes care of the power supply and is attached to the laptop magnetically, which brings with it great advantages. For example, the connection itself is extremely simple, and it is also a safer option in case someone trips on the cable, for example. Therefore, if there is any change in the field of connectivity, it can be counted on that it will be the return of MagSafe. Otherwise, the Air will likely continue to stick with its USB-C/Thunderbolt connectors.

Performance

What Apple fans are particularly curious about is clearly the performance of the expected laptop. Apple is expected to use the second generation Apple Silicon chip, namely the Apple M2, which could move the device several steps forward. But the question is whether the Cupertino giant can repeat the success of the first generation and, simply put, keep up with the trend it has set itself. Not much is known about the changes that the M2 chip could bring. In any case, its predecessor (M1) provided a fairly significant increase in performance and better battery life. Based on this, it can be concluded that we can count on something similar even now.

Anyway, the number of cores should be preserved, as well as the manufacturing process. Accordingly, the M2 chip will offer an 8-core CPU, 7/8-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine and will be built on a 5nm manufacturing process. But other speculations mention an improvement in graphics performance, which will ensure the arrival of two to three more cores in the graphics processor. As for the unified memory and storage, we probably won't see any changes here. Accordingly, it is likely that the MacBook Air will offer 8 GB of memory (expandable to 16 GB) and 256 GB of SSD storage (expandable to up to 2 TB).

Availability and price

As is customary with Apple, more detailed information about the expected products is being kept secret until the last moment. That is why we now only have to work with speculations and leaks, which may not always be completely accurate. Anyway, according to them, the Apple company will introduce the MacBook Air (2022) this fall, and its price tag is unlikely to change. In that case, the laptop would start at less than 30, and in the highest configuration it would cost around 62 crowns.
