Evernote, the popular app for creating and advanced note management, got a pretty major update this week. In version 7.9, Evernote brings multitasking to the iPad and thus also the best of iOS 9. But there is also support for the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, or a big novelty in the form of the ability to draw.

When it comes to multitasking, Evernote took advantage of both options that iOS 9 allows. There is Slide Over, i.e. sliding Evernote out from the side of the screen, as well as the more demanding Split View. In this mode, Evernote can be used on half the screen in parallel with another application. Due to the hardware requirements, however, Split View mode is only available on the iPad Air 2 and the latest iPad mini 4. Older iPads are out of luck in this regard.

But in addition to multitasking, drawing is also an important novelty. Evernote now allows notes to be supplemented with colorful drawings. The environment available to the user for drawing clearly shows the handwriting of the developers of the Penultimate application, which has been under Evernote for a long time after the acquisition. So it is possible that Penultimate will be completely integrated into Evernote's main application over time and will disappear from the App Store after a while. However, the management of Evernote has not commented in this regard, and the fate of the separate application for drawing is therefore unclear for the time being.
