Dropbox prepared very unpleasant news for users who used the services of its applications Mailbox and Carousel. Both the e-mail client and the photo backup application will end soon.

The end of both applications has been speculated for a long time, as they have received practically zero support from Dropbox in recent months. Still, the announcement caught many users by surprise.

Dropbox has now announced that it will be discontinuing Mailbox and Carousel in order to shift all focus and developers to the main app, which is the eponymous Dropbox, and its collaborative features.

"The Carousel and Mailbox teams have developed products that many have loved and their work will continue to make an impact." he said Dropbox on your blog. Closing both Mailbox and Carousel, which will end on February 26 and March 31 of next year, respectively, was said to be a difficult decision, but Dropbox had to make it in order to improve the main service.

Mailbox that Dropbox under its wings received almost three years ago, was at the same time a popular alternative client because worked with emails differently. However, development was stopped many months ago and Mailbox remained practically untouched on iOS, Android and Mac.

Meanwhile, many of its previously unique features have been taken over by competing apps like Outlook or Google Inbox, and so Mailbox has ceased to be unique. Without further development, it did not have much of a future, and on February 26 of next year it will definitely end. Users will have to find a new mail client.

It's the same with the photo manager, by the Carousel app. It will not end until a month later, so that users have time to download their photos and possibly migrate with them in a different way if they want. Dropbox will introduce a simple export tool next year to make the transition easier. At the same time, it is going to integrate key functions from Carousel into its main application.
