In recent years, modern technology has undergone huge changes. Today, we already have sophisticated systems for virtual reality, augmented reality is also being improved, and we can practically constantly hear about positive progress in their development. Currently, in connection with Apple, the arrival of its AR/VR headset is being discussed, which could surprise not only with its astronomical price, but also with enormous performance, a high-quality screen with microLED technology and a number of other benefits. But the giant probably won't stop there. Will we see smart contact lenses one day?

Quite interesting information about the future of iPhones and the overall direction of Apple is beginning to spread among Apple fans. Apparently, the Cupertino giant wants to cancel its revolutionary Apple phone, which is currently the main product in the entire portfolio, over time and replace it with a more modern alternative. This is also evidenced by the ongoing development of not only the mentioned headset, but also the smart Apple Glass glasses for augmented reality. The whole thing could be closed by smart contact lenses, which in theory may not be as far as it may seem at first glance.

Apple smart contact lenses

At first glance, it is clear that the future is likely to lie in the world of virtual and augmented reality. In addition, smart contact lenses could solve the problems of the glasses themselves, which may not fit everyone perfectly, which can hinder comfortable use. Although we know similar concepts from sci-fi films and fairy tales, perhaps we will see a similar product at the end of this decade, or at the beginning of the next. The lenses as such would of course function completely normally at the core and could be used to correct eye defects, while also offering the necessary smart functions. A chip working with a suitable operating system would have to be embedded in their core. In this context, there is talk of something like realityOS.

For now, however, it is too early to speculate about what the lenses could actually do and in what ways they could be used. But there are already all sorts of questions about the price. In this respect, it might not be so unfriendly, since the lenses as such are an order of magnitude smaller. According to some sources, their price could easily range from 100 to 300 dollars, i.e. around 7 thousand crowns at the most. However, it is still too early for even these estimates. The development is not in full swing and it is only a possible future for which we will have to wait for some Friday.

Unquestionable barriers

While replacing the iPhone with newer technology may seem like a great idea, there are still a number of barriers that will take time to overcome. In relation directly to the lenses, there are huge question marks over user privacy and security, which we were once again reminded of by well-known science fiction works. At the same time, the question regarding the "durability" of the product did not escape the discussion. Common contact lenses are divided into several categories according to how long a person can wear them. For example, if we have monthly lenses, we can use one pair for the whole month, but we have to count on their daily cleaning and preservation in the necessary solution. How a technology giant like Apple would handle such a thing is a question. In this case, the technology and healthcare segments are already quite strongly mixed, and it will take some time to resolve all matters.

Whether the future really lies in smart glasses and lenses is unclear for now. But as smart contact lenses have already shown us Mojo Lens, something like this is no longer just science fiction. Their product uses a microLED display, several smart sensors and high-quality batteries, thanks to which users can have all kinds of information projected into the real world - precisely in the form of augmented reality. If Apple could theoretically take a similar technology and raise it to a whole new level, we can safely say that it will literally get a huge amount of attention. As mentioned above, it is still too early to make such estimates, as Apple's smart contact lenses could theoretically arrive only at the turn of the decade, i.e. around 2030. One of the most accurate analysts, Ming-Chi Kuo, reported on their development.
