It's on the developer's website Patrick Moberg a betaworks and the whole concept of the Dots game clearly sums it up. Everything is completed by a quote from Oscar Wilde: "Life is too important to be taken seriously."
The name of the game already reveals what the game is about. It's about connecting the dots on a playing field with a total of 36 dots in a six by six square. Each dot is colored in one of five colors - yellow, green, blue, purple, or red. Your task is to connect adjacent dots of the same color with your finger. You can move both horizontally and vertically until you hit a dot of a different color.
Dots work like a tetris, so when you connect several dots, they are erased, you are given the appropriate number of points (one for each dot) and the whole field is moved down and new dots are added to the top rows.
You have exactly 60 seconds for each round. However, in the pursuit of the highest score, you can use three power-ups that are purchased with collected dots. Thanks to them, you can stop time for 5 seconds (only once in each round) or remove any dot from the playing field.
Dots can't do more than that. Then it's up to you to upload the highest score. Your goal can be just getting various trophies, but you don't have an overview of them, or only about the ones you've got, not the ones you can still get, so it's a bit of a game of chance. Dots can connect to both Twitter and Facebook, so you can compare your best results with friends as well as people from around the world.
Free Dots is definitely not an expensive investment and will surely keep you entertained for a while. However, it is questionable whether they have the potential to stay at the top of the App Store for more than a few weeks.
