A very interesting report about a potential increase in the price of chip production by TSMC, which is Apple's main partner and the manufacturer of Apple chipsets, has now flown through the Internet. According to current information, TSMC, Taiwan's leader in the field of semiconductor production, is expected to increase production prices by about 6 to 9 percent. But Apple doesn't like these changes very much, and he should have made it clear to the company that it won't work like that. Fans are therefore beginning to speculate whether this situation could affect the future of apple products.

In this article, we will therefore shed light together on the whole situation regarding TSMC's increase in the price of chip production. Although at first glance it may seem that the giant TSMC is in a dominant position as the global leader and exclusive supplier of Apple, it is not that simple in reality. The apple company also has a strong influence in this.

The future of Apple and TSMC cooperation

As we mentioned above, TSMC wants to charge its customers 6 to 9 percent higher, which Apple doesn't like very much. The Cupertino giant should have clearly made the company aware of the fact that it does not agree with something like this and that it does not have to come to an agreement with such a thing at all. But first, let's shed some light on why something like this could be a major problem. TSMC is the exclusive supplier of chips for Apple. This company is responsible for the production of A-Series and Apple Silicon chipsets, which are based on the most modern technologies and a low production process. After all, this is possible thanks to the overall maturity of this Taiwanese leader. So if the cooperation between them ended, Apple would have to find a replacement supplier - but it probably wouldn't quite find a supplier of such quality.

Tsmc

In the final, it's not that simple. Just as Apple is more or less dependent on cooperation with TSMC, the opposite is also true. According to various reports, orders from the apple company make up 25% of the annual total sales, which means only one thing - both sides are in a fairly solid position for subsequent negotiations. So now negotiations will take place between the two companies, in which both sides will try to find common ground. In fact, this kind of thing is quite normal in the field of business.

Will the situation affect upcoming Apple products?

The question is also whether the current situation will not affect the upcoming Apple products. On the apple-growing forums, some users are already worried about the arrival of the next generations. However, we need not be afraid of this practically at all. The development of chips is an extremely long track, due to which it can be assumed that the chipsets for at least one next generation have long been more or less resolved. The current negotiations will most likely not have any effect on, for example, the expected generation of MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which are supposed to be based on the 5nm production process.

The disagreement between the giants could only have a certain effect on the next generation of chips/products. Some sources mention mainly chips from the M3 series (Apple Silicon), or Apple A17 Bionic, which theoretically could already offer a new 3nm production process from the TSMC workshop. In this respect, it will depend on how the two companies come to an agreement in the final. But as we mentioned above, just as TSMC is important to Apple, Apple is important to TSMC. Accordingly, it can be assumed that it is only a matter of time before the giants find an agreement that suits both parties. It is also possible that the influence on upcoming Apple products will be absolutely zero.
