Every day I come across documents of various formats, a copy of which I would also like to own, but I often look for the scanner in vain and there is nothing else to do but take a photo. Until recently, I practiced it this way, using photos, but currently I use the DocScanner application, which makes "emergency" photography much easier and expands it with very interesting possibilities.
It all works very simply. You take a picture (or choose one already taken from the album), the application itself detects the edges of the paper and then you have a scanned document at your disposal, without borders and without unnecessary things. It goes without saying that if you photograph the paper at a certain angle / crooked, DocScanner will straighten the document nicely. If it happens that the edges of the paper are poorly marked (for example, if there is not enough contrast between the document and the background), it is not a problem to adjust the edges manually. DocScanner automatically recognizes which paper format it is and if it fails here as well (which happened to me maybe once), you can also reset this manually. There are several scanning profiles (depending on what you're scanning) and various options for graphical processing of the document. The application also automatically regulates contrast and brightness, I am usually satisfied with the result, but sometimes it is necessary to intervene slightly manually.
Another perfect option is to create a multi-page document. So you no longer have to send e-mails with individual photos, you can create a PDF of several pages, and then send it directly from the application! Not only PDF format is available, you can save documents in the format for DocScanner, where you can then create a document of just a few pages. You can also send the scanned document as a JPG image, send it to an iPhone photo album or to Evernote. I can't forget the option to link the app to your iDisk or WebDAV account. You can download for completeness sample PDF, which I created in DocScanner.
To tell the truth, as an adequate price of the application, compared to how much it actually costs, I would imagine it to be about half, in any case, it is still a must-have item for me.

The sample pdf is from an iPhone 3GS?
Too bad it can't do OCR yet :)
Yes, from the 3GS. OCR would be pretty cool, that's true :)
There was an application that could do OCR. More precisely, what you took a picture of was sent to some server, which automatically OCRed it and sent it back to you by email. It wasn't all bad. If anyone wants it, I can look up what it was called.
Well, it must be added that the photo of the 3GS is also worth the money, which we will talk about..
how is DocScanner doing with pen signatures?
What should be the problem with signing with a pen?
There is also an application on the App Store for half the price - Scanner Pro for €3.99
But it's on Christmas sale.
Too bad it doesn't work from iPod touch :-(
