Among Apple fans, the arrival of an AR/VR headset has been discussed for a long time. Various speculations have been circulating about a similar product for a long time, and the leaks themselves confirm it. Apparently, we could also wait this year. Although we understandably do not have any official information about the headset, it is still interesting to think about how this piece of apple will fare in the fight against the currently available competition.

What is Apple's competition?

But here we run into the first problem. It is not entirely clear which segment the AR/VR headset from Apple will focus on, although the most common speculation is on gaming, multimedia and communication. In this direction, the Oculus Quest 2 is currently being offered, or its expected successor, the Meta Quest 3. These types of headsets offer their own chips and are able to function independently of a computer, which, thanks to Apple Silicon, should also apply to the product from the Cupertino giant. At first glance, both pieces may appear as direct competition.

After all, I myself encountered the question whether Meta Quest 3 will be more successful, or, on the contrary, the expected model from Apple. Whatever the answer to this question, it is necessary to realize a rather important thing - these devices cannot be compared so easily, just as it is not possible to compare "apples with pears". While the Quest 3 is an affordable VR headset with a price tag of $300, Apple seems to have completely different ambitions and wants to bring a revolutionary product to the market, which is also rumored to cost a whopping $3.

For example, while the currently available Oculus Quest 2 only offers an LCD screen, Apple is going to bet on Micro LED technology, which is currently called the future of display technology and is slowly not being used yet due to high costs. In terms of quality, it also noticeably exceeds OLED panels. Until recently, there was only one TV available on the Czech market with this technology, specifically the Samsung MNA110MS1A, whose price tag would probably blow your mind. The television would cost you 4 million crowns. According to speculations, the Apple headset should offer two Micro LED displays and one AMOLED, and thanks to this combination, it will provide the user with a unique experience. In addition, the product will likely boast the already mentioned extremely powerful chip and a number of advanced sensors for maximum accuracy when detecting movement and gestures.

Sony will not be idle either

The world of virtual reality in general is moving forward by leaps and bounds, which the giant Sony is now proving. For a long time, he was expected to introduce a VR headset for the current Playstation 5 console, which has been very popular with experts and gamers since its launch. The new generation of virtual reality is called PlayStation VR2. The 4K HDR display with a 110° field of view and pupil tracking technology impresses at first glance. In addition, the display uses OLED technology and specifically offers a resolution of 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye with a refresh rate of 90/120 Hz. The best part is that it already has built-in cameras to track your movement. Thanks to this, the new headset from Sony does without an external camera.
