The vast majority of Apple users do not change the ringtone on their iPhone, so they use the default one. After all, everyone around you can notice this. It's probably rare that someone's iPhone rings differently. Years ago, however, this was not the case. In the days before the advent of smart phones, almost everyone wanted to be different and thus have their own polyphonic ringtone on their mobile phone, for which they were willing to pay. But why did this change occur?
The advent of social networks also played an important role in this. It is precisely because of them that many people have started using the so-called silent mode to avoid the constant beeping of notifications, which can be more than annoying in large quantities. After all, this is precisely why we would find a number of users who, with a bit of an exaggeration, don't even know what their ringtone is. In this respect, it makes sense that they don't even need to change it in any way.
Why people don't change their ringtones
Of course, the question still arises as to why people actually stopped changing their ringtones and are now instead loyal to the default ones. It should be mentioned that this is the case mainly for Apple users, i.e. iPhone users. The iPhone itself is known for many of its unique features, and its default ringtone is definitely one of them. During the existence of the apple phone, this sound has become literally legendary. On the YouTube server you can even find its several-hour versions with several million views, as well as various remixes or a cappella.
iPhones still carry a certain prestige and are still perceived as more luxurious goods. This is especially true in poorer regions, where these pieces are not so easily accessible and their possession thus speaks of the owner's status. So why not show up and make it known right away, just by using a simple ringtone? On the other hand, it is necessary to point out that these people do not have to do it with the aim of getting ahead of others. Rather subconsciously, they don't feel a reason to change. In addition, since the default ringtone for iPhones is so popular, many users have also liked it.
Default effect or why not waste time
The existence of the so-called default effect, which focuses on people's behavior, also brings an interesting perspective on this whole topic. The existence of this phenomenon is also confirmed by a number of different studies. The most famous is probably the one associated with Microsoft, when the giant discovered that 95% of users do not change their settings and they rely on the default, even for critical functions, among which we can include, for example, automatic saving. It all has its own explanation. In the vast majority of cases, people are lazy to think and naturally reach for any shortcut that makes the whole process easier for them. And just leaving the default settings is a great opportunity to avoid practically everything and still have a fully functional device.
When we combine everything together, i.e. the popularity of iPhones and their ringtones, their brand of luxury, overall popularity and the so-called default effect, it is more than clear to us that most people will not even want to change. Users today, in most cases, do not want to play with their device like this. On the contrary. They just want to take it out of the box and use it straight away, which iPhones do beautifully. Although it faces criticism from some for its closedness, on the other hand it is something that makes an iPhone an iPhone. And by all accounts, it also plays a part in the aforementioned ringtone.
I haven't heard the default iPhone ringtone in a long time. Most people change it creatively. So much for the "objective" findings in the article.
I've probably never heard anything other than the default ringtone on an iPhone, because no one around me changes it. So much for your "objective" comment.
That's right, everyone around me has their iPhones ringing the same way. The only exception I made was for my wife, who has her own specific ringtone.
Sure, what is the man writing?
I agree, everyone around me changes their iPhone ringtone. I don't know anyone who has the basic one.
Nothing new for me, I've been leaving all the sounds default for about 10+ years. Not only on iPhone, but also on Win phones and Android :-)
The only sound I change is the sound of the alarm clock - it has to be annoying from the start so that I don't like it and really wake me up :D
In general, I don't have the default settings for the device and SW, I often customize it a lot, but the sounds are something I don't care about, because it doesn't matter - it's not something functional. Just like the color of the car does not affect the performance, the need to ring it does not affect whether it rings or not :-)
so I change the sounds, I don't want to turn around to see if my phone is ringing or something else... and I don't need to show that I have an iPhone either, I need an automatic signature in emails, I also rewrote so that it can't be seen that I'm writing from an iPhone... who cares …
