The Apple TV+ platform did have an unexpected and really huge success at this year's Oscars, when V rytm srdje won three statuettes, including the most prestigious one. But it's one thing to chase your ego with super-quality and for many hard-to-digest content, and it's another to sneer at the platform as such.

What is this about? If there is a call for Apple TV+ at Apple, whether at conferences, in the newsroom in the form of press releases, etc., no superlatives are spared. Right? As for the content, I personally think that it is really different compared to the competition and really manages to attract attention. So where is the problem? Above all, in the fact that Apple coughs on the viewers. Or at least if not on purpose, at least it seems that way.

What is Apple TV+?

There is no need to argue about whether the content of the platform is of good quality. Not only the Oscars, Emmys, Globes and other awards speak for everything, but also the evaluation of individual acts at the ČSFD. I don't even think the content is lacking. If you jump into the platform now, it will already provide you with enough entertainment for a pretty long time (only with subtitles, though). So why is there a lack of public interest in Apple TV+?

Yes, maybe some of that percentage increased after the success at the Oscars, but it will be taken back just as quickly by new players on the market, at least for us in the form of HBO Max and Disney+. If you have money, as all the mentioned platforms have, how do you try to attract users to subscribe to you? Primarily a price that will be discounted for a limited time. Ok, Apple has already tested that, but what next? This is, of course, subverting the platform in the form of advertisements.

Have you seen an advertisement for Apple TV+ somewhere in our TV program or on the website? They didn't see. But have you seen the ones on HBO Max or Disney+? Yes, and practically everywhere. In addition, Disney+, which is just coming to the Czech market, does not get along very well with it. In its rather epic trailers, of course, it entices the greatest hits, led by Obi-Wan.

The app is the problem

Apple is different and approaches its platform differently. Doesn't want to invest in ads? Okay, but how else will his platform reach users? Of course, based on recommendations from those who already use it. But looking at the Apple TV iOS app, would you recommend it? It's a rather confusing mess of content that can be quite difficult to navigate in any way. Tweaking the interface and adding new features isn't a problem for Netflix et al, it is for Apple. He would have to update the application with the system. Packing house.

In addition, the Shop tab here still irritates me. Heck, if I'm paying for a subscription to a service, why am I getting some paid content that's only meant to be bought or rented? But if necessary, the platform can boast that it actually offers the latest Spider-man, which is otherwise exclusive to Disney+, or even the entire Godfather series. What about the fact that it has nothing to do with Apple TV+, and is more of a competition for YouTube or Google TV.

That little would be enough, and Apple could get away with Apple TV+. But he obviously doesn't want to. He clearly still wants to be that alternative person who rejects trends and goes his own way. To be honest, on the one hand, this is perhaps a good thing. Why follow the masses behind Netflix when you can have something truly original, Apple original?
