A few months ago, Apple started selling its Watch, and today at WWDC it presented a new version of the operating system for them – watchOS 2. The biggest innovation of this system is undoubtedly the native applications that the Apple Watch lacked until now. A new watch face was also introduced, on which you can put your own photo in the background.

The new watchOS 2 marks a big shift for developers and users alike. Developers can now develop native applications that will be much faster and more powerful, and at the same time they can use additional watch hardware thanks to new APIs. For users, watchOS 2, which will be released in the fall, will bring new watch faces or communication options.

Current Apple Watch applications are very limited - they run on an iPhone, the watch display is practically just a remote screen and they have limited options. Now, Apple is giving developers access to the Digital Crown, haptic motor, microphone, speaker and accelerometer, allowing for the creation of completely new and innovative applications.

Even so, developers have already developed thousands of them for the Watch, and this is the next step to take them to the next level. Thanks to access to the heart rate monitor and accelerometer, third-party apps will be able to better measure performance, the digital crown will no longer be used only for scrolling, but for example to gently control the lights, and the vibrating motor can let you know when the car door is locked.

The opening of so-called complications is similarly important for developers. As small elements directly on the dial, they display various useful data that you always have right in front of your eyes. Making complications available to third-party developers can make the Apple Watch an even more efficient tool, since the watch face is the watch's central screen.

Developers can start working with the new tools now. When watchOS 2 is released to the public in the fall, users will be able to put their own photos or perhaps a time-lapse video from London on the background of their watch faces.

The new Time Travel feature on the watch will literally move you through time. As the wearer turns the digital crown, the Watch rewinds time and shows what events or activities await you or what the temperature will be when you arrive at your destination in a few hours. While "browsing" through time, you can also find out information about your flight - when you fly, when you have to check in, what time you land.

Newly, Apple Watch will be able to communicate more creatively using different colors when drawing pictures, and it will be possible to reply to e-mails by dictating a message. The list of friends will no longer be limited to twelve people, but it will be possible to create other lists and add friends to them directly on the watch.

Many will certainly welcome the new mode, which turns the charging Watch lying on the bedside table into a handy alarm clock. At that moment, the digital crown with the side button serves to snooze or turn off the alarm. An important security innovation in watchOS 2 is Activation Lock, which we know from iPhones. You'll be able to remotely wipe your stolen watch and the thief won't be able to access it until they enter your Apple ID password.
