THOR-CD release (1988)

On April 21, 1988, Tandy Corporation announced the development of the THOR-CD - an erasable and reusable compact disc for recording music, video or data. However, the mass production of the discs was repeatedly postponed, and Tandy Corporation finally put the whole project called THOR-CD on hold - one of the reasons was, among other things, the too high production costs. At the time when Tandy came up with this type of CD, compact discs were used in the vast majority of cases as music carriers, not for recording data.

Child Online Protection Act comes into force (2000)

On April 21, 2000, among other things, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, which was approved in October 1998, came into force. The law deals with the collection of personal information from children under the age of 13, which cannot occur without the consent of the legal representative. This law is the reason why many social networks and web services are accessible from the age of 13.
