All the latest iPads have great displays that are a joy to watch movies or play games on, but one of them stands out a bit. According to detailed test DisplayMate Technologies it has the best display on the iPad mini 4. Right behind it are the iPad Pro and iPad Air 2.

DisplayMate uses a range of calibrated laboratory measurements and tests comparing image and photo quality in its tests. According to their results the latest iPad mini has "arguably the best and most accurate tablet LCD display we've ever tested." It even got better marks than the iPad Pro with a resolution of 2732 out of 2048 points.

But even the biggest iPad didn't do badly. It scored "very good" to "excellent" in all tests. The iPad Air 2 was also marked as the highest quality display, but it shows that it was released a year ago, unlike the other two tablets, so it is slightly behind them.

All three iPads use the same IPS panels, however the iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro have a higher contrast ratio than the iPad mini 4 because it uses a different LCD manufacturing technology.

Testing showed that all three iPads have comparable maximum brightness, however, when measuring the maximum contrast ratio, the iPad Pro won. DisplayMate has never even measured a higher True Contrast Ratio on a tablet LCD display.

When testing the color gamut, where the best result is 100 percent, the iPad mini 4 had the most accurate result (101%). The iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro were slightly worse, with both displays displaying an oversaturated blue. The iPad mini 4 also won in color accuracy, but the iPad Pro was close behind. The iPad Air 2 received worse marks in this test.

The displays of all iPads did not find competition when it came to reflecting ambient light. In this regard, according to them DisplayMate cannot be matched by any competing device at all.
