Today saw the official launch of the new and highly anticipated streaming service Disney+ in the US and Canada. As expected, it should be a serious competitor to practically all other streaming platforms, thanks to both the offered catalog and the competitive price.

After several weeks of testing, Disney+ is finally available in the North American market. US and Canadian users can download the app to their phones, smart TVs, tablets and other devices. Already on the first day, several million people reportedly did so, and the service faced problems related to the availability of content and applications as such in the first hours of its life.

In North America, Disney+ is available for $7, with the monthly rate even lower for an annual subscription. For that price, Disney+ offers almost unrivaled operating conditions in terms of the number of streaming channels and the quality of the content being played. This, combined with a very large library led by titles from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Star Wars universe, a huge galaxy of classic Disney tales and many, many other titles, makes the service a very attractive option for all who have access to it. And that is the biggest pain point of Disney+ so far.

Currently, the service is only available in the US, Canada, and the Netherlands, where a public beta test took place, which turned into standard operation today. The service will also reach Australia and New Zealand next week (November 19). Disney+ will not expand to other parts of the world until next year – on March 31, it will reach Western Europe, specifically Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. For us, in the Czech Republic and by extension Slovakia, it will no longer be so famous with availability.

As it appeared in the images from the presentation (see above) that Disney played to its shareholders, the expansion to Eastern Europe, which certainly includes both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, is planned for the turn of 2020 and 2021. The official availability of the service is still at least we will wait a year, because Disney+ could be here in the last quarter of 2020 (first fiscal quarter of 2021) at the earliest. On the other hand, however, there should be a full-fledged launch, including localization, which should have dubbed images in addition to subtitles.

If Disney+ maintains the price with which it enters the market, and in the Czech Republic realistically offers a full-fledged library, as users in the US have (unlike Netflix), it will be a very worthy competition for all other streaming services. For her to be here.
