Here are ten tips to optimize (increase) the battery life of your iPhone.
Adjust the display brightness
It is best if the brightness setting indicator moves somewhere before half way. Automatic regulation then automatically changes the brightness of the display according to the lighting so that the display is darker in dark areas, which is perfectly sufficient, while it is nicely readable in the sun. You certainly do not need 100% luminosity in the dark, and your eyes may appreciate a lower brightness. Brightness intensity is set in Settings > Brightness (Settings > Brightness).
Turn off 3G
If you have 3G turned on, it not only gives you faster data transfer with a mobile Internet connection, but also the possibility to maximize data usage and still be available for calls. But 3G has a negative effect on battery life. So if you're not using 3G, be sure to turn it off. If you use it, turn it on only when you really need high speed (eg watching streaming videos, listening to the radio, etc.). Data transmissions are of course available even if you are on a 2G network (GPRS or EDGE), but you will not be available to make a call at peak traffic. The 3G setting is in Settings > General > Network > Enable 3G (Settings > General > Network > Turn on 3G).
Turn off bluetooth
Turn off bluetooth whenever you are not using a headset or other device to which you need bluetooth connectivity. This will significantly increase battery life. Bluetooth is set in Settings > General > Bluetooth (Settings > General > Bluetooth).
Turn off Wi-Fi
When Wi-Fi is turned on, after certain intervals it tries to connect to preferred networks or searches for new networks and then offers you a connection to an unknown network. This also happens whenever the phone is in standby mode for a long time and you unlock it (just show the lockscreen). I recommend turning on Wi-Fi only when you use it (e.g. only in the coverage of private Wi-Fi that you regularly connect to - home network, office, etc.). Wi-Fi is set in Settings > Wi-Fi (Settings > Wi-Fi).
Reduce the frequency of getting Emails
iPhone allows you to periodically retrieve Emails from your accounts at certain intervals. The longer you set the delay, the better it will do to your battery. Of course, it's ideal to retrieve emails manually in the Email application when you remember, which certainly won't be every hour (hourly retrieval is the longest adjustable delay). In addition to the iPhone always connecting to the server, the Email app is still running in the background and is practically impossible to get rid of unless you're playing a very demanding 3D game. There is also so-called Push (not to be confused with Push notifications) - new data is pushed by the server with a short delay after receiving it - I definitely recommend turning it off. These functions can be set in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data (Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Data Delivery).
Turn off push notifications
Push notification is a new technology that came with FW 3.0. It allows third-party applications (i.e. from the AppStore) to obtain information from the server and pass it on to you even when you are not in the application. This is used, for example, in new applications for communication (e.g. via ICQ), when you are still online, even if you have the application turned off, and new ICQ messages arrive to you in a similar way as a new SMS message. However, this feature has an extreme impact on your battery life, especially if you don't have an active mobile internet connection (i.e. through an operator, not Wi-Fi). You can turn off the function in Settings > Notifications (Settings > Notifications; this item is only accessible if you have FW 3.0 and any application using Push notifications has already been launched).
Turn off the phone module
In areas where you don't have a signal (e.g. metro), or it's very weak and you don't need it, turn off the phone module. Just like in the evening when you go to sleep and you don't have to be on your phone. Ideally, turn off the phone completely in the evening, but I think few people do that today. Switching off the telephone module is therefore sufficient. Turn off the phone module by turning on airplane mode. You do this in Settings > Airplain Mode (Settings > Airplane mode).
Turn off location services
Location services are used by applications that want to get your location (eg Google Maps or navigation). If you do not need these services, turn them off in Settings > General > Location Services (Settings > General > Location Services).
Set automatic locking
Auto-lock locks your phone after a set period of inactivity. You set this in Settings > General > Auto-Lock (Settings > General > Lock). Of course, it's ideal if you always lock your phone when you don't need to use it, or when you're just listening to music, for example.
Keep the operating system clean
Keeping your operating system clean not only helps your battery, but your operating system itself. While using the phone, you start some applications that are always running in the background (eg Safari, Mail, iPod) and to a lesser extent also drain the battery life. Therefore, it is advisable to regularly clean the RAM memory, e.g. with applications Memory Status from the AppStore, or restart the phone occasionally.
this again makes me wonder why the iphone doesn't have preset modes. I would really appreciate that. Turn off bluetooth, wi-fi, notifications, email at work. Outside: turn on notifications, turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, etc... yes, that would be convenient.
Yes, of course, but the article is not here for everyone to switch everything off right away, but for everyone to realize that, for example, they have a function turned on that they will not use at all, or a function that they don't even know is turned on. There are a lot of people around me who cursed the endurance, I looked in Settings and we turned off half the things because those people don't need it.
About the profiles - I would say that it is something that few people miss, even though it is a kind of 'standard' of mobile phones today, in short, people have got used to the fact that the iPhone does not have this option. But still - if you were willing to pay for this option and still jailbreak, you can use it MyProfiles from RockYourPhone.
Antabelus: I'm not a fan of jailbreak.
Unfortunately, there is no other option.
I tried that once, but in the end I came to the conclusion that if I turn off all the battery eaters, I don't actually use any of the advantages of the iPhone :-) so I charge it every day and I've gotten used to only putting the phone in air mode overnight.
MyProfiles so far, nothing much... After all, only on UIQ and WM it was about something else (and above all, none of what is standardly required in Nokias, there is no extra solution).
Otherwise, turning off/on everything possible manually, then I am a slave and the iPhone is functionally half. If someone is still dealing with endurance, then this is probably the solution for them, but I feel sorry for them (nothing bad)...
Golf: that's what I thought. What you can permanently save on is definitely the brightness of the display, and with bluetooth turned off, you can perhaps even wish for a mail check period.
@VFisa: You're welcome, but it's not out of the question (and decency) to act diplomatically. I don't know what you're talking about, but I haven't used this resource at all, I don't even know this server (maybe it's a shame, I don't know).
For next time - when you're going to point out whatever it is, try not to make your convictions so clear-cut as, for example, now that you've completely screwed up.
OK, I accept and apologize to the author.
I was just surprised by the publication of an article about the same thing and with the same tips on the same day, or slightly suspicious of each other (and so typical for Czech servers..)
PS I think the list of priorities on the observer is probably the best.
Hi, I can't find the "notification" option for push notifications.
I used to have jailbrake but now with os 3.0 I don't.
What with this?
The "notifications" item is only accessible if you have FW 3.0 and any application using push notifications has already been launched.
Vitek/Jablickar: ... You can find the notification directly in the Settings item, the fourth item from the top... this item must first be "awakened" using an app with push. As long as the phone doesn't even have ICQ, Skype, the item isn't there...
late... writing slowly... :-)
what amazes me the most is that manufacturers such as apple, nokia, htc put such weak batteries in their most equipped mobile phones. After all, those functions are there for a person to use them, and already in the second half of the day I have a problem that the battery in the iPhone is running out, luckily the external battery is the same and I only hope that in future iPhones they will provide a much more powerful battery
JaMI: Jablickar: only completely new technology will save these gobblers, and it will take a long time before it reaches the market. We have read a lot about hydrogen and similar hybrids, but nothing here. I would like the solar panel under the display the most.
Well, even so, they could gather the best there to make it last as long as possible...
JaMi, Flerry: The batteries are definitely not weak and are probably the best that have been available. It is important to realize what everything is in that small box: Large color display covered by an equally large sensor for several touches at the same time, proximity sensor, incident light sensor, accelerometer, wireless transmitters/receivers GSM, UMTS, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS (receiver only ). And I must have forgotten something. When you realize what the flashlight powers and how small a box it fits together with the mentioned devices, you have to admit that it's rather a miracle how long it lasts. My previous phone lasted the same amount of time on a single charge and not even half that.
Hello, gentlemen, I would like to ask for your advice. Today, out of the blue, my battery started to die. After charging it lasted about 4 hours. And the phone was still quite warm. And I didn't call, I didn't surf, nothing... as if something had bitten and it was still running... I turned off the iPhone, turned it on, but it didn't help... does anyone have any idea what I should do? Thanks for any advice.
If it doesn't help, you probably don't pay for internet from the operator and it's caused by PUSH notifications. After turning off this function, everything should be OK.
Antabelus: of course I pay for the internet ;-) however, you are right that Push was enabled in the mail settings in the Data Delivery tab. I'll turn it off and see. But it is a mystery to me, how is this possible? Or is it the default setting when updating SW 3.0?
Jablickar: I tried, I'll see. I will let you know

i have one observation on battery drain that i would like to share… i have
account with gmail and nothing happened, my battery started to drain intensively... the first thing I turned off was push... but still my iPhone tuned in about minute intervals... I uninstalled all the applications that could pull something from the Internet but still nothing... finally I got the hang of it came... settings-mail, contacts, calendars-data delivery-\all the way down\other-\here is your account and here you have to switch from collection to manual... and it's... it doesn't tune anymore and the battery drains twice as much... jakub
Hi, the problem mentioned by Patrick in August 2009 happened to me, I can't do anything on the iPhone, O// and it's still warm and the wheel in the e-mail is spinning, o// you don't know what to do with it???? until then everything was OK, O/// operator O2 tariff iphone Neon vc. internet
I still have one question, the email on the list has been transferred via Outlook to the iPhone, o// when I go into Outlook it starts loading messages and when I go back to the email, what is on the list??? so it's completely empty, everything I had there disappeared, O/// you don't know what to do with this??? can it be set somehow so that I don't lose this data from private email ????
so the problem is still not solved, O/ in addition, I sometimes get messages that the connection to the incoming post pop3.seznam.cz has failed and in addition, o/// I call outside, but when I try to call on my iPhone, I am unavailable and sometimes it happens that I will call you, o/// everything after downloading 3.1.2. ,o/// oh yes, until then, everything went like clockwork, I can't help it anymore
So I'll comment on the constant switching off and on. So I have it all set, but I use SBSettings and it turns off easily, besides, you can add a lot of other toggles, so it's very easy. I just go to the status bar and I can turn it off and on without complicated settings. ... q battery will last two days..
Bye MatezZ
But that's bullshit. Do you want your phone to last? So you turn off all its basic functions and, if possible, don't even call from it. ….
