I've written a lot about Sygic's navigation in the past. Today I'm happy to announce that Navigon is gaining competition in navigation software in the form of Mobile Maps Europe and you can download this iPhone navigation from the Appstore today.
The navigation looks absolutely excellent from the pictures and I am curious about the first impressions of you users. Mobile Maps Europe does not lack a voice navigation guide, and according to the description, it should probably be in Czech as well. Sygic should be suitable for both cars and bikes, which many of you will certainly welcome. We should probably also expect reports of radars or dangerous places.
As you can see, I still don't know much about the new navigation. But it certainly enticed many of you to buy it, so when you try it, be sure to leave your impressions here under the article. IN Appstore you can buy it for €79,99 (and it shouldn't be an introductory price) and prepare about 1,9GB of space on your phone. In the future, we are still looking forward to navigation from TomTom and especially their car holder, which was developed in cooperation with Apple engineers and should improve the GPS signal.
I will only add competition from iGO. But Navigon was the first with Europe and it certainly helped itself a lot, judging by how often it is in the top places among paid applications...
And as for the holder from TomTom, it will reportedly have an integrated HF set and the possibility of connecting to the audio in the car. So a lot of people who write poems about it probably get a little carried away by the price, usually a holder with a suction cup and a joint costs almost seven hundred, I don't even dare to estimate here...
Well, the prices scare me (including Navigon and iGo will definitely go the same way). I'm not saying it's absurdly much, but I still think it's unnecessarily much. They should sell it for $60 or less, a lot of people wouldn't hesitate to buy it and would just buy it. But this is just too much for iPhone SW (without any hardware). Bad marketing move and disappointing for me.
Bad marketing move??? And what about the fact that Navigon is consistently at the top among paid applications that are sold for one euro? Well, now it will divide and go down a little, the law of the market...
Well, I don't know... I didn't know it until I downloaded Navigon... even if it's not as perfect as it is (which may be helped by an update), I started to like that there is more space when navigating and there are no tables that I didn't use as often anyway. so for me either Navigon or maybe Igo
But that doesn't mean anything. Try to calculate the increase in profit if it were a third cheaper. But on the other hand - there is plenty of time for possible discounting, so let the enthusiasts buy it at this price.
And by the way - on the AppStore with the biggest sales (US) there is no navigation even in the first hundred paid applications.
I know, but they have had a different navigation for some time now. I just don't know with what success.
I will probably buy it too, but 4 days delay is too long for the first navigation and Navigon is fine (recalculation of the route is really fast), I can say that I have all the mobile navigation systems that are possible (legal) and Navigon fulfills everything I need. If Sygic was the first, I'd take it, but unfortunately Navigon was the first (which suits), just a problem with consumption, we'll see how the 3GS will be, we'll come tomorrow, so I'll let you know, but probably Navigon WINS, even though I've always preferred Sygic. Well, I'll let you know after the weekend, but I still recommend Navigon
I somehow expected the competition to wave with the price. Well, I will buy when the price of the navigation system is at the maximum of our fixed and unshakable one: for 1000 CZK, I have a limit on my card :-) now I really have a Garmin navigation system at home, it is great for long distances, but like this, I would like to just click on my iPhone but I'm not crazy to buy SW in the range of 60-99 dollars
Although the information has been circulated, I will repeat it. From 1/7/09 the Navigon will be €25 more expensive (€99). The second thing, Sygic can do more, but compared to Navigon it is very late (take your pick)...
Hey, doesn't it seem to you that this Sygic somehow disappeared from the app store? I don't see him anywhere. Otherwise, I already have a Navigon :)
Interesting fact :D
And you bought a Navigon? :)

Jailbreak yourself and download it for free :P . :)
What can sygic do more than Navigon?
Thanks for the explanation. What does it actually take the radars from? I assume they only report the stationary ones :-). It seems strange to me that if Navigon is poorer, that it should be from 1.7. more expensive than Sygic.
I see it that way, if Sygic is ever available for download on the Internet, I'll download it right away :D I don't want to pay for it :YES, don't you think that Navigon will continue to improve with successive updates? :) I am satisfied with it
Please be aware that both Sygic and iDA (a stolen Russian version of Sygic) work with quite a delay, according to some user reports, even up to 20 seconds. Even if it was 10 or even 5, it is completely unusable for real navigation... In my opinion, Navigon followed Apple's path (rather simple but perfect than to cram functions and have problems) and only improve it in subsequent updates (the practice is them such that the purchase guarantees an update including maps for 2 years). TomTom will probably be a different coffee... But no one knows when...
I'll wait for Sygic until it's in the AppStore again. I won't download the stolen version :)
Do any of the navigation systems also work on the iPod Touch 2G in the Czech Republic?
I don't know if you can leave it there, it's possible, but the iPod doesn't have GPS, so it's basically useless
I'm hesitating to buy Navigon, but I'm confused by the first negative comment on the AppStore, where I read that the navigation worked successfully, I quote: "only after turning on the location services, that is, with the use of A-GPS and the use of DATA SERVICES." What exactly A - GPS is? Does anyone have experience with Navigon abroad? There is a risk of a problem or charges from the operator - data roaming, etc., etc. Thank you in advance for any information. Btw. one more question.. if a person enables localization services, is there data transfer that can be charged to the operator? I thought it would only enable location detection via the GPS module..what does that have to do with data services..?
The data roaming can be disabled in the iPhone menu if needed.
JJ I'm also waiting for the TomTom paradox, it was introduced at WWDC and now it will be the last one listed :-)
So that in the end the real reason is not something completely different (copyrights, with a Russian partner who stuffed it into Cydia), but only time will tell. Otherwise, other "experiences" speak of poor route calculation and the impossibility of using multitouch (there is no integration into the iP environment) and its occasional crash...
Alas, I only see:
The item you've requested is not currently available in the Czech Store.
hmm ... sir, thanks for the comments and insights
I haven't bought yet, I've been waiting a year, I'll hold out for a while as Tom gets better
I bought Navigon and I am quite satisfied. Although it doesn't know the various tricks of Prague 8, where I test it, and sometimes it sends me on an unnecessary detour or into a no-turn, but that's not much of a problem, if I'm going somewhere else, it recalculates the route and continues. What bothers me is that I can't revise the route and I don't know how I would enter a route to Italy via Austria and Switzerland if I want to skip the highways in Austria, except that I would turn off the highway option at the end of Germany near Bodensee.
What do I need to be able to use the navigation in the ipod touch thanks for the info?
