The presentation of the two larger iPhones was accompanied by thunderous applause at the keynote, but the new phones divide existing and potential users into two camps. While for one group Apple has finally introduced a large enough smartphone, others are disillusioned by their view of oversized phones.
In the seven years of the iPhone's existence, Apple changed the diagonal only once, while the change did not significantly change the dimensions of the entire phone. Until this year, Apple adhered to the philosophy that the phone should be controlled with one hand and its size should be absolutely adapted to it. That's why the company practically had the smallest high-end phone on the market. Although the iPhone is the most successful phone, the question is whether it was because of its size or in spite of it.
Even before the presentation, I was convinced that Apple would keep the existing four inches and add a 4,7-inch version to them, but instead we got 4,7-inch and 5,5-inch screens. The company thus seemingly turned its back on all those who advocated the compactness of the phone. These users will have a hard time now, because they have practically nowhere to go, because practically no one makes high-end phones with a diagonal of around four inches. The only option is to buy a generation older phone, the iPhone 5s, and last as long as possible.
[do action=”quote”]The question is whether the iPhone was successful because of its size or in spite of it.[/do]
But maybe not all days are over. It must be remembered that Apple had to work on two phones at the same time. Larger diagonals were clearly a priority at Cupertino, and the all-new design required a lot of effort from both Jony Ivo's team and hardware engineers. At the same time, only they know whether Apple simply omitted the four-inch model so that it would not have to deal with the internal design of three models at the same time. For those who really want a small phone, there is still only one generation older device available. Next year, however, the situation could be more problematic, as the iPhone 5s would already be two generations old. If he wanted to thank these Apple users, of course if there was enough demand, he could easily introduce the iPhone 6s mini (or minus) next year.
However, it is also very likely that small phones are simply ending and the trend of large screens and phablets is unstoppable. Although today it may seem that Apple has been defending the compact size of phones for a long time, it should be remembered that the first iPhone was the largest phone on the market in 2007. Back then, people were calling for the iPhone nano.
Over the past seven years, our hands have not evolved to make the argument for compact size and one-handed operation still valid, but the way we use phones has changed. In recent years, the phone has become the primary computing device for many, and calling as such, after all, which is what the iPhone is named after, is an increasingly less frequently used feature. We spend much more time in the browser, on Twitter, Facebook, in RSS readers or chat applications. In all these activities, a larger display is an advantage. With diagonals of 4,7 and 5,5 inches, Apple is de facto saying that it fully respects how the use of phones in general has changed.
Of course, there will still be a large part of people who will use the iPhone from five percent of its capabilities and would rather have a compact device in their pocket than a larger display for reading. With all judgments, it will still be better to wait until we can touch the new iPhones, and at the same time wait to see how Apple itself will approach the four-inch model next year. You can print in the meantime own layout for comparison, or to be significantly more accurate straight away order from China.
End of 4 inches and detto gradually ipad mini. ipods actually already have it figured out. even the ipad air won't be so famous. product lines change, weak ones leave new ones and strong ones come in :)
Well I just bought a 5S after the 6/6+ was introduced, I was secretly hoping they would release a 4″ version, although I didn't really believe it after all the leaks. I wanted to switch from Droid to iOS because I was won over by the iPad mini and size is a decisive parameter for me, so I had to choose an older model, which is a shame, but on the other hand it suits me completely.
I'm almost the same way, after five years with Android I decided to borrow an iPhone 5S from a friend. I was waiting for the 6 to show but I was also hoping for a 4″ version. However, the post-rental rating? A very nice surprise and it is already ordered. So the procedure with the last few devices? Samsung Galaxy S II > Galaxy Note I > Galaxy Note II > iPhone 5S. He could be home this week and… I'm looking forward to it! :)
The evolution of customer preferences needs to be understood. In essence, the phone is no longer primarily intended exclusively for calling, and it depends on that.
I wouldn't be surprised if they introduced a 4" iPhone (air) in the spring. Otherwise, I agree with the article. Many people prefer one device to a phone+tablet combination. Constantly
it is not necessary to insist on one-handed control. Either people will get used to it or go back to 4″, if there are still any. It is worse to carry it in your pocket, I recently tried to put a 5″ in my pocket and it was already peeking out of my pocket. Bend absolutely impossible with him. At least women have handbags, but we who carry phones in our pockets have a problem with choosing.
all manufacturers secretly cooperate with clothing brands. we need to go back to pocket mode thanks to the cow phone :P
Personally, I would not evaluate this year's Apple products yet and wait until October, however, the iPhone is a disappointment for me for 2 main reasons. And that is the Design, which in my opinion is exactly disgustingly rounded and basically destroys the beauty of the 4ky and 5ky. And the second reason is the omission of the 4″ version. If they wanted to go to larger sizes, then to 4″ and 4,7″. I think that a 4,7" display would satisfy a slightly larger number of Android users.
I would definitely be in favor of a 4-inch iPhone mini or nano. The minus designation is a bit unfortunate, although it is logical given the iPhone plus and then the normal iPhone, which I think should remain named this way to preserve the original name and iPhone plus or pro. This way it would give me the most logic and I would slowly give up on iPods, which also had many editions. And as another argument, I would see that if Macs can be sold in diagonals from 11 inches to 27 inches (I know that computers are something completely different, but I'm just giving an example of my subjective opinion), then why can't Apple supply iOS devices with sizes from 4 inches to 9,7 inches ,XNUMX which would elegantly cover the entire demand just like with Macs. (In my opinion, this option would make much more sense for Apple than for Macs, as it makes much more money from iOS gadgets). And as for iPods, I would leave only the shuffle, which is suitable as a cheap gadget for athletes. If only it was waterproof….
And here we got to another thing. And the stupid naming of the products. I don't understand why Apple didn't just make the iPad (large) and call the small iPad (Air)?! For that, he could have made an iPhone (4,7″) and made a classic 4″ AND called it Air. It would be trouble. Or the bigger one, if you don't call it the stupid Plus, but maybe the Pro... just like Macy, And as for the name iWatch (Apple Watch if you want), it's a complete mess. On the other hand, doing 2 iPhones last year turned out to be the 1st Stupid move. I'm curious how it will develop this year. I dismissed the 5C from the initial leak and still do today, turns out I was right.
Apple most likely wanted to be inspired by iPods and got a little confused. Well, maybe it will work out :D. And I would not see the 5C as a failure that it was perceived that way, I would rather attribute it to the fact that on technology forums everyone prefers to buy a better model, but what I have observed from those around me is that a lot of people switched to the 5C from Android because of the colors that give it such a juicy cool factor. I note that these were people (mostly female) who are interested in any technical specification.
In addition, I think that Apple didn't even want avy to be sold more, rather it focused on those who put on the cool factor (this is also proven by the champagne iPhone) in order to attract them if they weren't there yet. And it was also sold better than the Galaxy S4 :D
Isn't that too much, Anton Pavlovich?
the iP6plus is really enough, I would never buy it again, they could cancel the iPad mini and make a phone with it, the 6plus will decide, it's really extreme, I can't imagine myself with such a cow and the smaller six is already a reality enough, if it's a plus, I'd rather not evaluate the design, I'll skip this year and the next and wait for what the seven will bring
after Apple's entry into the Chinese market through China Mobile, an increase in diagonals could be expected. in my life, I have never seen a single rascal in Prague who had an extremely large mobile phone. they all take pictures with iPads and hold a Samsung Note 2 in their hand, which is about 6″.
5s was too small for me. The size 6 suits me, but the 6+ is a terrible halmara.
I think the options for next year are:
1) Apple will present the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus and will still leave the iPhone 5S on offer for 4¨ supporters, and will disappear completely from the market at the stroke of next year.
2) Apple will introduce the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus and upgrade the former 5S to the same design as the smallest of the brothers, with approximately the same hardware features (iPhone 6S mini). Therefore, Apple will still have all 3 diagonals in the menu in the coming years in the same design and the same hardware configuration.
I personally recommend the second option. The reason why Apple didn't do it this year is simple: Working on 3 completely new models at the same time is even more demanding than on two, and it is very possible that they wouldn't have time to produce or catch some of the ailments during the initial production. And another reason is simply profit: If I can keep an established model on sale, I don't have to spend additional development costs, I'll save capital on inventory since I already have it, and there will also be a lot of people who will be afraid of canceling the 4″ diagonal in next year, which is why even those who originally didn't plan to buy a newer device will rush to buy the "last 4" piece...
That's my opinion, but you never know with bitten apples anyway. Anyway, for me, I'm buying an iPhone 6 (currently owning a 5S) and when the AppleWatch comes out, I'll go for it too, because I'm just one of those apple sheep who would buy a shit.. if it had the official Apple logo on it : -D
Personally, I would be in favor of option 2. Unfortunately, nothing will happen with the design until next year, so I'm not interested in the phone, to me it looks like a dime a dozen, boring and disgustingly rounded, it looks to me like a Samsung with an Apple. I guess I'll stick with the 4S longer than I expected
And the design of the 5S doesn't suit you either? On the contrary, I like it extremely. I only like the 6 from the front, from the back it's hideous by those disgusting plastic lines, which I'll have to hide in the case.
Yes, the 5S suits me, but I doubt that they would leave the design for the 4″. And when I buy new ones next year, the 5S will be the 2nd gen old model, which I don't want, and the 6 will keep its design, so I won't have much to choose from. Soublasim 6ka and her thick lines are humus
Again, I think that next year the iPhone 6c will be released with 5s internals and a 4-inch diagonal, again in some color variants...
The 5C has the internals of the iPhone 5, i.e. the previous generation, so the 6C would rather have the internals of the iPhone 6
Yes, you are right, it is possible that they will release a 4,7 inch 6c model and they will completely cut off the 5s and the 4 inch size.
Everything is possible, but I wouldn't be so pessimistic. I don't think they will cut the 4″ and I also don't think they would leave a 4 year old model as the only representative for the 2″…
It's subjective... I have a 3,7" (HTC) so far and was hoping Apple would release a larger model than 4" as the 5S is a small phone for me. I could just stick with my current phone (considering the size). I'm going to go for the 4,7″ version, ideal, bigger and I wouldn't want smaller either, so I'm happy!
