Making the reader of saved articles, videos and images even smarter is the main task of the new version of the Pocket application that appeared in the App Store. Pocket 5.0 mainly brings a new function Highlights, which highlights, for example, the best saved articles…

On the occasion of the new release, the developers said that more than 800 million items have already been stored in Pocket, with another 1,5 million articles and other content being added every day from thousands of apps, blogs and websites.

The new version of Pocket 5.0 is supposed to be smarter, more dynamic and offer easier navigation and search. The novelty is the so-called Highlights. Pocket now goes through all saved articles and assigns labels to them Best Of (articles with the greatest influence and impact), Trending (the most popular content stored and shared in Pocket), Long Reads (long articles that take more time) a Quick Reads (shorter articles for a few minutes).

Each label has its own color, making it easy to tell which article you can read when you don't have much time, or which article is generally popular and worth reading, in your list. Highlights moreover, they are constantly learning and adapting to your interests. You can then only display tagged articles if your "library" is full.

Navigation has also been significantly improved, which is now much faster. A side control panel was created on both the iPad and the iPhone, which can be called up with a button in the upper left corner or by dragging a finger from the edge of the display. All folders are thus faster and more accessible. The management of your content is then facilitated by the possibility of bulk editing.

Please note that Pocket will be distributing a new feature Highlights over the next few weeks, so it's possible that even after updating to Pocket 5.0, you won't see the new labels yet. However, it should be available to everyone before long. A similar update awaits the web and Mac versions in the coming months.
