Many sports fans were certainly pleased that finally, after a long wait, another official application of our public television appeared in the App Store. ČT4 Sport it's here and it looks interesting at first glance.
I'm not a fan of mainstream sports like football and hockey, but I like sports in general. And the ČT4 Sport application brings a lot of new and fresh information that is right at hand.
First impression of the app? Nice appearance and clear. But to tell you the truth, right after installation, launch and after more detailed research came a big disappointment. I really don't understand how it is possible that the application for ČT4 and ČT24 looks completely different. It is understandable that each application was created by different companies, but is keeping the same layout and control style a problem? I get used to a certain type of control and suddenly, boom, everything is completely different. The entire control of ČT4 Sport and movement in individual messages is completely different from ČT24. Several times I've already pressed a button where it doesn't exist at all, because for example the back button is in the worst possible place, which is at the bottom right. The standard "pull to refresh" function does not work. Instead, you need to hit the refresh arrow in the upper left corner.
The lower bar with the division of categories as with ČT24 has remained, but the tab for live broadcasts is missing. It is not possible to watch 100% of broadcast programs in the online stream, which is quite understandable due to certain broadcasting rights. On the other hand, the stream is relatively well managed and simply works as it should. Unfortunately, we will not see an audio stream here, as with ČT24.
Another indisputable mistake is that not a single application (ČT24, ČT4) works on the iPad. It's a purely iPhone thing. Which certainly won't please tablet owners. Devices with iOS older than 4.0 are again out of luck with ČT4.
But let's leave the minor mistakes aside. In my opinion, the application has no reasonable competition in our country, not only in sports, but in TV applications in general. After all, other televisions are not yet significantly involved in smartphones. It will probably take a very long time before the competition comes up with something similar.
But I will not forgive myself one more remark. But Česká Televize is such a "master of promises". At the end of February, the application for iVyszílá should be ready. Where nothing, here nothing. It's April and we're glad that ČT4 is here. At least iBroadcasting in HTML5, don't we want that much? We waited, but what is the solution? Flash? I hope that iVysílaní will not be developed by another (third) company.

After the publication of the article, Czech Television responded to our criticism:
Thanks for the constructive criticism. We are aware of the shortcomings that the application has and we are working on the next version, which will move it somewhere further. We are always faced with the question of whether to drag out the development of applications or publish them in a certain state and work on improvements continuously. It always comes back to us in a negative comment. Either in the form of criticism of shortcomings as in your article, or in the form of criticism that we promise and do not deliver, which is what you also wrote. Unfortunately, during development, we constantly come across technical complications that complicate and hinder the implementation of many functions. That's why we're still testing and developing iBroadcast for iPad. At the same time, we are working on iPad versions for ČT24 and ČT4. And that is the answer to another question in the article, why we don't cooperate with just one company. It would all take much longer. But thanks again for the constructive criticism, we appreciate it and will work with it.
Query?
When you install any application from another producer, do you expect it to be controlled the same way and do you get confused with the buttons? :)
The application is excellent and the controls are completely intuitive and clear.
Of course, I don't expect an application from another company to be controlled in the same way as an application from another company. But that is precisely the stumbling block why Czech Television (as one company) has two completely different applications. I simply can't think of that.
I apologize for the mistakes, I wrote on my iPhone and somehow it got lost in the small frame.
Go for it, I like sports, especially for the transmission to work, which goes crazy even normally.
A small inaccuracy in the article, the applications on the iPad work without a problem!!!
It works, but are you actually using it for real??? I installed both apps and it's crazy. It can't be used at all, it's simply not optimized for the iPad's resolution
In about two minutes, ČT 24 will have the correct resolution. ČT4 has been running without problems since the beginning
But you're talking about online TV streaming, and I'm talking about apicing as a whole. Which doesn't really have a native resolution for the iPad. If you look in the app store, CT4 is only for iPhone. So there is simply no iPad app and you can only run the compatible iPhone version on the iPad (I tap on the plus sign)
it works on the iPad itself, but it's hell.. it would require a native application for the iPad and that's all, iVysilani, ct24, ct4 .. for all the latter there is iCuda
I use the CT24 app on my iPad without any problems, the image quality is adjusted according to the quality of the connection... absolutely OK on wifi. Of course primo editing for iPad is necessary, but the iPhone version can be used normally
When it becomes a plus native application, it will be about something else on the iPad as well. Instead of TV via iPad, I use the native EyeTv iOS application from Elgat and it looks better.
And the EyeTV application can play all Czech TV channels?
If I'm not mistaken, the EyeTV app only works by being able to stream from your tuner in a MAC/PC to an iPad/iPhone. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
a/ It works as you write - I have both a DVB-T and a satellite DVB-S tuner from Elgat for the iMac - in these two cases you must have the computer turned on and EyeTV for Mac running.
b/ the second option is to purchase an Elgato Netstream DTT DVB-T (or S) tuner (antenna input, WiFi network output. In this case, you do not need to turn on the computer at all and stream through it, see point "a", you watch TV directly from the box from Elgat to WiFi to your iPad (or another WiFi or cable-connected computer network).

Live broadcast on 3G doesn't work for me, it works only on Wi-Fi, which surprised me quite a bit, Thursday 24 works normally even on 3G, I have Vodafone, so I don't know if it could be that

I was surprised, but at the same time I like how CT commented on it.
Just today I wanted to watch the match on my iPhone 4s, but the application crashes immediately after opening. What could it be? Thanks
