It was 2014 and Apple introduced its mobile payment and digital wallet Apple Pay to the world. It's 2023 and maybe it wants to go to the next level and provide more to more users. Yes, it's a useful feature, but we can imagine it could do a little more.

Being able to pay with your iPhone or Apple Watch not only offers more convenience than paying with a physical card, but also provides much-needed security for every transaction you make.

Apple Pay Cash

There's no need to go too far considering what Apple could improve on Apple Pay. We will not deal with the legislation here, but with the fact that we would really like to send each other finances only through iMessage. This is exactly what the Apple Pay Cash service, which is not available in the Czech Republic, can do. Whether it's paying for lunch for friends or sending your child some change for a snack. Even if this service is not available in our country, and it is a question of whether it ever will be, it is also appropriately limited. It works exclusively via iMessage and, as you can imagine, Android owners will not enjoy it. However, the second point is related to this.

Expansion mino Apple systems

You can use Apple Pay on iPhones, Apple Watch, or Mac computers, but you won't use it on any Android device. Thus, Apple is relatively bound by this, when it could properly expand and attract more people, including those who have switched from iPhones to Android phones. On the Google platform, for example, we have Apple Music, Apple TV+ is coming, so why can't Apple Pay? After all, Android is more open than iOS, which is the subject of the third point.

Other payment platforms

This isn't purely about improving Apple Pay, it's about improving the user experience. Apple blocks the NFC needed for payments in its iPhones, and does not give access to it to other developers. They simply cannot create other payment applications because the communication between the phone and the contactless terminal takes place via NFC. It's quite a shame that Apple only pushes its platform - that is, especially for those who switched from Android to iOS and were used to Google Pay.

Apple Pay for iPad

Yes, the iPad supports Apple Pay, but only in apps and on the web. If you wanted to use it to pay for a purchase at a physical terminal, you're out of luck. Apple did not give iPads an NFC chip. In the case of the 12,9" iPad, this may be a ridiculous idea, but in the case of the iPad mini, it does not have to be so unthinkable. In addition, an iPad with an NFC chip could still function as a terminal, which would open up many more possibilities for small businesses.
