If you also own a Mac or MacBook along with an iPhone, you probably know that you can send iMessages through the Messages application without any problems even on a macOS device. Unfortunately, it has happened to me several times that iMessage messages cannot be sent via MacBook. In this article, we'll look at some tips that can help you when iMessage stops working on macOS for some reason.

Stable internet connection

In order to use iMessage on both iPhone, iPad and Mac, you need to have a stable internet connection. If you are not connected to the Internet while sending an iMessage, a classic SMS message will be sent instead. So, if you are connected to unstable Wi-Fi or a personal hotspot with a weak signal, it is quite possible that you simply will not be able to send iMessage.

Classic procedure

If you are sure that you have a perfect Internet connection, then the classic and simplest procedure comes next. First, try turning off the Messages app completely, and that's it with two fingers (right-click) on the application icon in the Dock News, and then select an option End. Once you have completed this process, your Mac or MacBook reboot – in the left part of the top bar, click on  icon, and then select an option from the drop-down menu Restart… If this classic procedure does not help, then move to the next steps described below.

Correct Apple ID

To use iMessage, your Mac or MacBook must be connected to the same Apple ID as your iPhone. To check the correctness of your Apple ID, click on in the left part of the top bar  icon, and then select an option from the menu System Preferences… In the new window that appears, move to the section Apple ID and check if the Apple ID listed in the upper left corner matches the Apple ID you have set up on your iPhone.

Reset iMessage

If the restart didn't help you and you have the correct Apple ID set, then you can jump into editing the iMessage settings. The first step in this case is a simple restart of this service. You do this by switching to active window application News, and then click on the tab in the top bar News, where you then select an option from the menu Preferences… In the new window that appears, just switch to the section iMessage, where just tick off possibility Activate account. Then wait half a minute and activation do it again. At the same time, check that you have below in the section For news, you can be reached at checked those addresses where you can really be reached, i.e. your e-mail and phone number.

Sign out of iMessage

The last step you can take to fix broken iMessages is to log out of them completely and then log back in. Log out by moving to the active application window News, and then tap the option in the top bar News. From the menu that appears, click on the option Preferences… and in the new window, move to the section iMessage. Then just press the button Log out. Then the application News completely quit her again turn on and the same procedure se log in.
