The current iPhone SE 3rd generation was introduced to the world only this March on the occasion of the spring Apple Event. The Cupertino giant did not experiment too much with this model, on the contrary. It only deployed the newer Apple A15 Bionic chipset while keeping the rest the same. So the iPhone is still available in the body of the popular iPhone 8 from 2017. Although the third generation entered the market relatively recently, there is already a lot of discussion about the potential innovations that the expected successor could bring.

According to the latest information, the aforementioned iPhone SE 4th generation should arrive already at the beginning of next year, when February 2023 is most often mentioned. However, these leaks must be taken with a grain of salt, as they can literally change from day to day, as is the case with Apple products a habit for a long time. But let's leave the speculation aside for now. Instead, let's focus on what we would like to see in the new series and what changes/innovations Apple should definitely not forget. This particular model has a high potential for success - all it needs is the right modifications.

Newer body and bezel-less display

First of all, it is time to finally change the body itself. As we mentioned right at the beginning, the iPhone SE 3 (2022) currently relies on the body of the iPhone 8, just like its predecessor. For this reason, we have relatively large frames around the display and a home button with a Touch ID fingerprint reader. Although Touch ID does not represent such a problem, large frames are critical. There is simply no room for such a model in 2022/2023. Because of this shortcoming, users therefore have to settle for a relatively small 4,7″ screen. For comparison, the current iPhone 14 (Pro) starts at 6,1″, and in the Plus/Pro Max version they even have 6,7″. Apple would definitely not make a mistake if they bet on the body of the iPhone XR, XS, or 11.

A number of Apple users would also like to see a transition from traditional IPS displays to more modern technology, i.e. to OLED. Every iPhone today relies on an OLED panel, with the exception of the cheaper SE model, which still uses the aforementioned IPS. But we should keep a sober view in this regard. Although the transition to a higher-quality display, which thanks to OLED technology offers an excellent contrast ratio, vivid colors and can render black flawlessly by simply turning off the relevant pixels, it is necessary to perceive the expected effects of such a change. In this case, it is about the price. The entire iPhone SE line is based on a simple philosophy - a full-fledged iPhone with great performance, but at a lower price - which a more advanced display could theoretically disrupt.

Face ID

By deploying Face ID, the 4th generation iPhone SE would be one step closer to modern Apple phones. In reality, however, it is a very similar case to the deployment of an OLED panel. Such a change would increase costs and thus the final price, which apple growers may not be willing to accept. On the other hand, the feature to unlock the phone by scanning the face could win Apple a lot of fans. However, we have nothing to worry about in the final. Apple has practically only two options, each of which is fully reliable and simply functional. Either we will actually see a transition to Face ID, or we will stick with the Touch ID fingerprint reader. Although some would like to see it integrated into the display, it is far more realistic that it will be in the side power button.

Camera and more

Until now, the iPhone SE relied only on a single lens, which still managed to take breathtaking photos and videos. In this case, this model benefits from a sophisticated chipset and its capabilities, thanks to which the resulting photos are additionally edited with software to look as good as possible. It can be expected that the giant will continue to stick to this strategy. In the end, there's nothing wrong with that at all. As we mentioned above, even in such a case the phone takes great photos, while at the same time maintaining a low price.

We'd also like to see new features that the current generation SE 3 is missing. Specifically, we mean the film mode for even better video recording, support for MagSafe or night mode. Whether we will actually see these changes is unclear for now. What changes/new features would you like to see in the iPhone SE 4? Are you looking forward to a new body or would you like to stick with the current version with a 4,7″ display?
