WWDC, i.e. Worldwide Developers Conference, is primarily about software, which is also the name of the event, as it is focused on developers. However, this does not mean that we will not encounter some hardware here. Although it is not a rule, we can expect interesting news at this event as well.

Of course, it will mainly be about iOS, macOS, watchOS, iPadOS, tvOS, maybe we will even see the long-speculated homeOS. Apple will introduce us to news in its operating systems, which are used by iPhones, Mac computers, Apple Watch smart watches, iPad tablets, or the Apple TV smartbox, although it is true that the last mentioned is the least talked about. If Apple shows us its headset for AR/VR, we will certainly hear about the so-called realityOS on which this product will run.

Last year, Apple surprised a lot at WWDC, because after many years at this event, it just showed some of the hardware again. Specifically, it was a 13" MacBook Pro and a redesigned MacBook Air with an M2 chip. But how was it with other products in previous years?

Let's not really wait for iPhones

Apple usually holds WWDC in early June. Although the first iPhone was introduced in January 2007, it went on sale in June. The iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 also debuted in June, with the iPhone 4S establishing a September launch date for the new generation. Nothing will change this year, and WWDC23 will certainly not belong to the new iPhone, which also applies to the Apple Watch, which Apple never presented in June. This happened only once with the iPad Pro, in 2017.

WWDC belongs primarily to the Mac Pro. Apple showed new configurations here in 2012, 2013 and most recently in 2019 (along with Pro Display XDR). So if we were to start from this pattern and the fact that the current Mac Pro is the last one with Intel processors, then if a new generation awaits it, we should expect it right here. But last year's MacBooks made it a little more complicated for us. Now a 15" MacBook Air is expected and the question is whether Apple will want to build it next to its most powerful desktop computer.

Busy year 2017

One of the busiest years was the aforementioned 2017, when Apple showed a lot of new hardware at WWDC. It was a new iMac, iMac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and for the very first time we were introduced to the HomePod portfolio. But even its new generation was released by Apple in the form of a press release in January, so nothing can be expected here, which is not the case with iMacs, which would accompany the Mac Pro quite well. If we delve a lot into history, specifically to 2013, Apple showed not only Mac Pro but also AirPort Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme and MacBook Air at this year's WWDC.

From everything, it appears that Apple shows new products at WWDC only sporadically, depending on how it suits it, and above all with regard to whether and what kind of spring event it held. But we didn't get that this year, even though quite a lot of new products arrived, but only in the form of press releases. But one could really believe that some of the hardware will actually come this year. However, we will know everything for sure only on June 5.
