A few days ago, we published an article on our magazine in which we focused on an application called Sensei. This is one of the newer applications that will serve you perfectly if you are looking for a simple software for the complete management of your Mac - but you can learn more in the article I am attaching below. In a way, the Sensei application has stepped up to become a competitor to the very popular CleanMyMac X. To find out how these applications differ, we will break down the features of CleanMyMac X below, thanks to which you can determine your favorite.

News in the latest update

At the very beginning, I would like to focus on the news that we received with the arrival of the latest version of CleanMyMac X. As you probably know, a few months ago Apple introduced the very first Apple computers equipped with an Apple Silicon chip, namely the M1. Since these chips are built on a different architecture than before, it was necessary to somehow solve the compatibility of the applications. All originally compatible applications can thus be run through the Rosetta 2 code translator, which works great, however, it is necessary to spend more power precisely because of the translation. So it's absolutely ideal for developers to adapt their applications to Apple Silicon - and Rosetta 2 won't be around forever. And this is exactly what the developers of CleanMyMac X have done in the latest version. The application is thus fully compatible with Apple Silicon, at the same time there was also a complete redesign of the appearance, which is more similar to macOS 11 Big Sur.

CleanMyMac X

CleanMyMac X is the king of Mac management applications

As I mentioned above, CleanMyMac X is one of the most popular applications that you can use to manage your macOS device. If you've ever searched the Internet for ways to speed up your Mac or free up space on it, you've probably already come across this software. CleanMyMac X really offers a lot of different functions, thanks to which you can manage your Mac quickly and easily. I also see the fact that everything is fully under your control as a big advantage - the application itself definitely does not delete anything on its own, for example in terms of cache and others. Control takes place mainly through the menu in the left part, which is divided into six different categories - Smart Scan, Cleanup, Protection, Speed, Applications and Files, where each of these categories is used for something different.

Smart Scan

The very first item within CleanMyMac X is the one called Smart Scan. This is a kind of smart scan that is used to quickly clean, speed up and detect the presence of malicious code. According to the app itself, you should be running a Smart Scan regularly - it can even alert you via an icon in the top bar that can also be used to control the app - more below. In short and simply, you can use Smart Scan practically at any time and you will never damage anything with it, on the contrary.

Cleanup or get rid of ballast

Within the Cleanup category, you can perform extensive cleaning of your Mac or MacBook. This whole category is divided into three sections namely System Junk, Mail Attachments and Trash Bins. As part of System Junk, CleanMyMac X helps you easily find unnecessary system files, which can then be easily deleted. Mail Attachment is a simple tool that can be used to delete all files related to Mail. All attachments from Mail are saved, which many users don't even know about - right here you can simply delete all attachments and save tens of gigabytes of space. The Trash Bins box can then empty the trash on all your drives at the same time, including external ones. Regularly emptying the trash can then help in case of some errors in the Finder.

Protecion or stay protected

If we take a closer look at the Protection category, you will find a total of two tools in it that are used to protect your privacy and determine whether there is any malware or other malicious code on the device. To remove infected files and malicious code, use the Malware Removal section, where you just need to run a scan and wait for the verdict. The virus database of this section is of course regularly updated, so you always get 100% protection. Thanks to the Privacy section, you can then delete data from web browsers and communication applications. Even in this case, it is enough to start the scan, and then have the data deleted if necessary.

Speed or immediate acceleration

Having problems with your Mac's performance? Are some apps running slowly? Have you decided to play a game, but it doesn't work? If you answered yes to even one of these questions, then we have great news for you. As part of CleanMyMac X, you can use two tools in the Speed category that are used to speed up your Mac. In Optimalization, you can set which applications will start automatically at startup, including hidden ones. Maintenance is a simple tool that performs several actions that can significantly affect the speed and performance of your Mac, which can be useful in certain situations.

Applications or simple updates and uninstalls

When I mentioned at the beginning that CleanMyMac X includes practically everything you might need to manage your Mac, I certainly wasn't lying. In the Applications category, you will also find three different sections with which you can manage all your applications. In the Uninstaller section, you can properly uninstall specific applications, including removing all hidden data that the application created. The Updater section is also interesting, with the help of which you can easily update most of the applications you have installed on your Mac - including those downloaded from outside the App Store. In Extensions, all web browser extensions can be correctly removed, or they can be deactivated on request.

Files or searching for unnecessary files

The Files category will perfectly serve all users who have a problem with creating free space in the storage. Personally, I really appreciate the first feature of Space Lens here, which can scan all folders and files in the system. All these folders will then be displayed clearly in bubbles, which are of different sizes depending on how much storage space they take up. This means you can click through to the largest folders quickly and elegantly. In the Large & Old Files section you will then find a simple list of the largest and oldest files that might be worth deleting. The last section is the Shredder, which is used to securely destroy and delete private data, or folders that you cannot delete in a classic way.

Top bar or everything at hand

I definitely must not forget to mention the CleanMyMac X application icon located in the top bar. Using this icon, you can quickly control the mentioned application and display basic information that is useful to know when using a Mac. In addition to information about active protection against malware in real time, you will find below the status of your storage, along with the current usage of operating memory, processor or network. However, there is also information about the applications that use the battery the most, or a section for managing the trash, with which you can also be notified if a certain limit of data waiting to be deleted is exceeded. Of course, you can also quickly run CleanMyMac X here.

CleanMyMac X

záver

If you are looking for the best and most used Mac management application, then CleanMyMac X is the right choice. Compared to the Sensei application mentioned in the introduction, it offers several additional functions, however, it lacks accurate information about hardware devices, specifically, for example, about the temperatures of individual hardware components, or perhaps about the operation of the cooling system. Of course, you can try CleanMyMac X for free for a limited time, but after that time you have to pay. An annual subscription for one device will cost you less than seven hundred, if you prefer a lifetime license, you will pay a little over two thousand.
