The school year has started and the academic year is slowly starting. So it's high time to equip your touch tablets with various school programs. Specialized applications are becoming increasingly popular among students…

iStudiez, recently number one in the field of student programs, now has to deal with more and more competition. Not surprisingly, given the ever-increasing number of iPads (and not only) in school facilities, applications are becoming an increasingly profitable business for developers. Apparently, the creators of the application had the same idea Classes - Timetable. But did they succeed?

Classes – Timetable can be found on the App Store for a fairly reasonable price of 1,79 euros as a universal iOS application. Like the price, the size of the app is also acceptable. 4,1 MB won't break the bank even on mobile internet. Upon opening, you will be greeted with a bare calendar with months. Nothing special, but as soon as the name of the month contains diacritics, an inappropriate font, which simply does not know diacritics, is unpleasantly displayed. I'm already coming across another (dis)advantage of Classes – Timetable, Czech. She is nowhere near as professional as she should be. Not only do some phrases make no sense, but some are simply not translated. It is all the more sad that it was not translated into Czech by a translator, but by a human being.

Classes – Timetable serves as a smart helper to create your own schedule and as a task and exam manager. The initial definition of the schedule (i.e. subject, type of subject, room and lecturer) will take some time, but then you can already enjoy Classes as you will be notified before the start of the lesson, task or exam. When the class is already running, you can see how many minutes are left until the end. It's nice to be able to choose which event badges on the app will alert you to. It is especially useful for university students when they want to keep these things in order.

A direct comparison with iStudiez is encouraged, but it must be said that it is still some miles further. It cannot synchronize via iCloud (and thus also the application on Mac), grades in the application, events from the native calendar or the creation of Classes - Timetable semesters. The application, on the other hand, can be proud of the choice of the so-called subject type. Thanks to this, you will know whether you are waiting for a seminar or work in a laboratory.

You can also use export to PDF, multiple schedules and also the option to print. It sounds great, but you have to pay an additional 0,89 euros via In-App purchase for the Extra Pack. I don't understand why there are such purchases even in paid applications.

The design looks very airy thanks to the use of a white surface and dark strips. The Classes – Timetable user interface contains two clear sections, one with a calendar and one with tasks. With iStudiez, you have a notebook divided into two parts, a schedule and tasks, and a calendar is located on the right side. In terms of design, iStudiez is better, the imitation of a notebook and a chalkboard looks simply irresistible. Either way, I'm curious to see how the developers of both apps will cope with iOS 7.

The developers of Classes - Timetable took advantage of the popularity of iStudiez and borrowed important functions from it and dressed it in a new coat. Unfortunately, some functions are missing that can significantly make life more pleasant. But the important thing is that Classes is not just a copy of iStudiez. Everything is kind of the same, but actually different. After using it for a few weeks, I came to the opinion that iStudiez is a better choice, mainly because of better schedule management.
