We recently informed you that IKEA's smart blinds have finally received HomeKit platform support after a long time. Unfortunately, not long after their expansion to the North American market, they began to encounter certain technical difficulties. This is not the first time that IKEA products with HomeKit support do not work quite as they should.

One of the products from the Swedish furniture giant's production that supported HomeKit were smart light bulbs, which IKEA started selling in May 2017. HomeKit support was supposed to be introduced in the summer of the same year, but users did not get it until November. The situation with smart blinds was similar. IKEA announced their arrival in September 2018, the price was to be announced to the public in November of the same year. In January 2019, the company announced that the blinds will see the light of day in February (Europe) and April (US), and will offer support for the HomeKit platform. But none of the promises came true.

In June of last year, IKEA promised that customers would receive the blinds in August. It fulfilled its promise, but the blinds lacked HomeKit support at the time. In October, IKEA said it would be rolled out by the end of the year, but in December pushed back that date to 2020. This month, overseas customers finally got to see the gradual rollout of support — and there were technical issues. Even IKEA itself referred to them in response to the question of one of the British customers, why HomeKit support is not introduced for smart blinds in his country of residence.

IKEA's smart blinds should also support scenes and automation as part of the integration with HomeKit. In conjunction with Apple's native Home app, they reportedly work better than IKEA's Home Smart app. Further details regarding the mentioned technical problems are not yet known.
