Chuck Norris. Need to write more? This phenomenon of the last few years, about which so many legends are told that they would fill several books, has captivated perhaps the whole world. And people are having fun. Therefore, it is not surprising that this phenomenon has also arrived on our lovely iDevices.

It's been some Friday since the game Chuck Norris: Bring on the Pain! published by the company Ludigames, protected by Gameloft. Anyway, I only played it now, when the Czech Republic is immersed in Chuck Norris mania thanks to T-Mobile.

After starting the game, it reminded me of Chuck's early works, mainly the movies Missing in Action, anyway, it is peppered with rumors about this B-level actor. The game is meant to entertain, but does it succeed?

The story is very simple. It begins when Chuck Norris circled the globe to hit himself on the top of the head. As a result, he lost all his abilities, but was offered to rescue hostages held by "bad guys". He couldn't do it, so he traveled to the jungle to save innocent people. The story is really simple, but it gets complicated over time. I'm not saying a lot, but a little. This could already be made into a solid "old school" thresher, but somehow it doesn't work here.

More or less, the game is designed in the style of beat up what you see (or shoot) and free the hostages. That's still not the worst. The worst is the gameplay. Although the game went through about nine versions, the authors were still unable to change the controls. So if you mishit the joystick on the left, you're out of luck, Chuck just won't move. I thought it might be intentional, since big Chuck isn't going to move as some "guy" tells him to, but then why would they sell it? Another nail in the imaginary coffin of control are some interludes. It is often necessary to use the accelerometer, but I could not find a configuration option anywhere. You're just lying down, mowing down enemies, and suddenly you have to sit down, because you don't use tilting left and right, but up and down. Only one button is used for all tactiles. Therefore, I would like to know how the properties that Chuck collects during the game are used.

Each level is designed on the principle of reaching from left to right (to a certain point). Occasionally there is a fight with more soldiers or the main boss of the level, which is referred to as a "challenge", although this is not true. The game didn't ask me about the difficulty, and it's laughable, so to speak. Autosave is at every turn, you never go back, even if you get killed from a pretty long distance. It has its advantages and disadvantages. You defeat the main boss of the level for the first time and if he kills you, nothing happens anyway, you are right next to him (not only applies to the boss of the level). Although it is a fact that it is almost impossible to die for a level whose duration is roughly 2-5 minutes, and if you do, it is only due to poor control.

I won't go into great detail about the concept of the levels, but despite the fact that they are left to right, then you run into one more thing. Out of those 2-5 minutes, you spend about half a minute watching the enemies standing in front of you and talking to each other. I say "something" because the captions in the bubbles above their heads disappear faster than the food in a Chilean village.

Graphically, the game is average. Chuck looks good rendering (even on iPhone 4) and some animations are not bad. For example, when he throws an enemy onto the windshield of the iDevice. But quite often a problem arises. You press a button, Chuck does something, but you don't know what, because the screen is chaos.

I rather turned off the sound after playing for a while, because the music is roughly at the level of the AY-3-8910 chip on the old ZX Spectre, only with more channels and it seems unsalted, ungreasy. It does not depict the atmosphere of the game at all, it is not striking like other threshers. I just recommend turning it off.

The only minor issue is storage. The next day I wanted to continue and suddenly I was back in the first level instead of the twelfth where I left off yesterday. I don't know if it makes sense to wade through this game again.

I won't just be critical. This game also has one valuable positive. As I mentioned at the beginning, it tries to "parody" Chuck Norris, so it is interspersed with English sayings about this giant. These appear between levels and if you are killed. However, if you want to buy the game because of the announcements, I'd rather recommend any page dealing with announcements about Chuck Norris.

One more thing makes the game interesting and I almost forgot to mention it. You can take a picture of anyone, even the boss, and then put the photo on your enemies, which makes the game a perfect distraction. Unfortunately, I didn't try this feature, I didn't have the courage.

The game could be absolutely awesome if the developers worked on the controls and tweaked the music a bit. If, despite my verdict, you feel like buying it, you can do so for 0,79 euros <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>.

PS: If I don't write anything for Jablíčkár, then Chuck Norris will find me and punish me for this review. I finally get to see his kick up close and not just from space.
