Internet fraudsters once again targeted Czech users of Apple products. In an attempt to lure payment card details out of them, they launched a new phishing attack spread via text messages, whereas until now these attacks were normally spread via e-mail. A message that our reader also received sister site, claims that your iCloud account has been blocked for security reasons and you need to visit the attached link to unblock it. However, it will redirect you to a fraudulent website.

After clicking on the page, users will immediately see a website that requires them to fill in all the data from the payment card, including the holder's name, number, validity in MM/YY format and CVV/CVC code. This data alone is enough for a fraudster to start using your card to buy things over the internet. In no case do not pass this information on to anyone over the Internet and ignore messages of a similar nature.

The fraudulent website also differs from the official one by the absence of a certificate for secure communication, which is also required by the laws on trusted services in the countries of the European Union. In the Czech Republic, it is Act No. 297/2016 Coll. on trust-creating services for electronic transactions, while in Slovakia it is Act 272/2016 Coll. on trusted services for electronic transactions in the internal market. You can also recognize a certified website thanks to the green text or lock icon next to the website name in the browser. If you're still not sure whether you're being contacted directly by Apple or a scammer, we recommend trying to download one of the free apps from the App Store. If you can download the application, your Apple ID and therefore iCloud are completely fine.

If you receive a fraudulent SMS message, we recommend reporting it to Apple immediately:

  • If you receive a fraudulent email, please forward it to the address reportphishing@apple.com.
  • Send suspicious or fraudulent emails received at icloud.com, me.com or mac.com to abuse@icloud.com.
  • You can report fraudulent and suspicious text messages to Apple by clicking the button below them Report.
