It was on August 9, 2011, when Apple, along with the iPhone 4S, introduced its virtual assistant to the world, which it named Siri. It is now part of its operating systems iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS, but it also works on HomePod or AirPods devices, and even though it already speaks more than twenty languages and is supported in 37 countries around the world, Czech and the Czech Republic are still missing among them .

You can ask Siri to send you a message from your iPhone, play your favorite series on Apple TV, or even start a workout on your Apple Watch. Whatever you need, Siri will help you with it, just tell her. You can, of course, do so in one of the supported languages, among which our mother tongue is not present. Slovak or Polish are also missing, for example.

When Apple officially launched Siri in 2011, she only knew three languages. These were English, French and German. However, on March 8, 2012, Japanese was added, followed six months later by Italian, Korean, Cantonese, Spanish, and Mandarin. That was in September 2012, and for the next three years there was silence on the footpath in this regard. As of April 4, 2015, Russian, Danish, Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish, Thai, and Turkish were added. Norwegian came two months later, and Arabic at the end of 2015. In the spring of 2016, Siri also learned Finnish, Hebrew and Malay.

At the end of September 2020 It has been widely speculated that during 2021, Siri will expand to include Ukrainian, Hungarian, Slovak, Czech, Polish, Croatian, Greek, Flemish and Romanian. It was precisely for this reason that the company hired people fluent in these languages for its offices. But since no regularity can be read from the release data of new languages, we can wait for the support of our mother tongue already at WWDC22, but also never. Although it is true that last June something finally started happening on Apple's website about Siri.

Czech is more widespread than other supported languages

It is of course a shame for us, because the company takes away from our functionality. At the same time, he has already provided a voice assistant to smaller countries as well. According to Czech Wikipedia 13,7 million people speak Czech. But Apple supports Siri in Denmark and Finland, where each language has only 5,5 million speakers, or Norway, where 4,7 million people speak the language there. It is true, however, that only Sweden is smaller, with 10,5 million Swedish-speaking people, and the following countries are already well over 20 million. The problem with Czech, however, is its complexity and floweriness, including various dialects, which probably cause problems for Apple.

You can find complete support for Siri and a list of countries where it is officially available on Apple's website.
