There are plenty of alternative music players in the App Store. Some can be classified as successful, some as less successful. The truth is that native applications Hudba it works perfectly fine and there are few reasonable reasons to abandon it. Recently, the player appeared in the ranking of the most downloaded applications CarTunes. Why did he "fly up" so high?

The answer is quite obvious - thanks to simple gesture control. As the name suggests, the application is primarily aimed at drivers connecting their iPhones and iPod touch to an FM transmitter or to a cable and then to the car radio. CarTunes will allow you to focus more on the driving itself than on controlling the application. However, nothing prevents you from using it as a replacement for the native player. The choice is yours.

You will find almost no buttons in CarTunes. These are located only in the upper part of the display, where you choose between lists of songs, albums, artists, playlists and podcasts. All other navigation takes place only with the help of gestures. Once you select a track and playback begins, you'll be presented with a screen with album art, information, and time data. However, you won't find any buttons on it, nothing. So how to control the application?

  • Tap anywhere on the display to pause playback.
  • Move your finger to the right to skip to the previous track, move to the left to the next track.
  • Swipe left with two fingers to turn shuffle on, swipe right to turn it off. (Can be changed in settings to navigate 30 seconds, 2 minutes or 5 minutes back/forward.)
  • Hold your finger and drag left or right to speed up playback to navigate to another section of the song.
  • Swipe down to send a tweet with the song title.
  • Swipe up to return to the library.
  • In the library, you make a selection classically by tapping on an item, by scrolling right/left you move back/forward, by pulling down you return to the song being played

If I was talking about the application settings, these are now quite unusually located directly in the system settings Settings. There is a logical reason for this placement – the gear button has no place in a gesture-controlled app. The number of choices is adequate for my taste. There are neither too many nor too few. I really like the option to match the colors of the song information with the album cover - something like iTunes 11. You can also change the font, so you have the option of light customization.

CarTunes is a very simple application, it does not (fortunately) have many functions. I'll admit straight away that I downloaded it out of curiosity when it was still free. I really like it, and it's absolutely great to handle. I would like to use it, but two main things bother me. The first one is the used font in the library, which cannot be changed. In my opinion, capital letters with a small flare are an unfortunate choice - they "pull" the eyes terribly. Yes, at first impression they look nice and modern, but they are simply not suitable for long-term use. The second beauty flaw, at least for me, is the white font on a black background. I can't get a taste for this combination. I would appreciate the option of a white background and dark font. If you don't mind these two complaints at all, I can recommend CarTunes even at full price.
