Heavy snow flurries gave way to deep frosts. How and where, of course, but the fact that we have winter here (even if it really starts on December 22 and ends on March 20) is undeniable. But what about our iPhone? Should we worry about its functionality?

Nothing is black and white and it depends on many factors. However, Apple states that its iPhones are suitable for use in an environment with a temperature of 0 to 35 °C. If you go outside this range, the device can adjust its behavior. But it is especially critical at high temperatures, not so much at low temperatures. By the way, the iPhone can be stored in an environment down to -20 °C.

If you use your iPhone outside of the operating temperature range in deep winter, battery life may be temporarily reduced or the device may shut down. When this happens depends a lot not only on the temperature itself, but also on the current charge of the device and the condition of the battery as well. But the important thing is that as soon as you move the device to the heat again, the battery life will return to normal. So if your iPhone turns off in the cold outside, it's just a temporary effect.

With older iPhones, you may have also noticed a slow transition response on their LCD display. With new iPhones and OLED displays, however, there is no risk of greater unreliability or damage. In any case, it is advisable to go on a winter walk with a well-charged device, ideally in the inside pocket of the jacket, which will ensure that it is also warm.

However, here is one more caveat. iPhones and iPads for that matter may not charge or may stop charging if the ambient temperature drops too low. So if you rely on charging your iPhone from a power bank outside during the winter, you may be unpleasantly surprised that nothing actually happens.
