In addition to the just presented new MacBook Air and Mac mini, we also received another interesting product. But from Blackmagic Design. It introduced a new external graphics unit with a faster Radeon RX Vega 64 chip. Compared to its predecessor, the product called Blackmagic eGPU Pro offers a much faster GPU and the possibility of connecting via DisplayPort.

Specifications

  • Compatible with any Mac featuring Thunderbolt 3
  • Radeon RX Vega 56 processor with 8 GB HBM2 memory
  • 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports
  • 4 USB 3 ports
  • HDMI 2.0 port
  • DisplayPort 1.4
  • Height: 29,44 cm
  • Length: 17,68 cm
  • Thickness: 17,68 cm
  • Weight: 4,5 kg

Despite the quality and silence of the previous generation, the Blackmagic eGPU Pro is supposed to be a step up. The newly added Radeon RX Vega 64 should eliminate any shortcomings, as it is similar to what is found in the base version of the iMac Pro. The new product should enable professional graphics performance even on such a thin device as, for example, the recently introduced MacBook Air. The price of this eGPU starts at $1199, which is a lot more than the previous version with Radeon Pro 580.
