iPhone is designed to protect your data and privacy. Built-in security features help prevent anyone but you from accessing your iPhone and iCloud data. And that's why there's also two-factor authentication. With its help, no one can access your Apple ID account, even if they know the password. If you created your Apple ID on operating systems prior to iOS 9, iPadOS 13, or OS X 10.11, you were not prompted to activate two-factor authentication and probably only solved verification questions. This method of authentication is present only on newer systems. However, if you're creating a new Apple ID on iOS 13.4, iPadOS 13.4, and macOS 10.15.4 devices, your newly created account will automatically include two-factor authentication.

How two-factor authentication works

The goal of the feature is to ensure that only you can access your account. So if someone knows your password, it's practically useless to them, because they would have to have your phone or computer to log in successfully. It is called two-factor because two independent pieces of information must be entered during login. The first is of course the password, the second is a randomly generated code that will arrive on your trusted device.

Stay in control of the app data and location information you share:

That's the kind of device you have tied to your account, so Apple knows it's really yours. However, the code can also come to you in the form of a message to a phone number. You also have that associated with your account. Because then this code will not go anywhere else, the attacker has no chance to break the protection and thus get to your data. In addition, before sending the code, you are informed about the login attempt with location determination. If you know it's not about you, you simply reject it.

Turn on two-factor authentication

So if you're not already using two-factor authentication, it's really worth turning it on for peace of mind. Go to it Settings, where you go all the way up and click on Your name. Then choose the menu here Password and security, in which the menu is displayed Turn on two-factor authentication, which you tap and put Continue.

Subsequently, you will have to enter a trusted phone number, i.e. the number to which you want to receive said verification codes. Of course, this can be your iPhone number. After tapping on Další enter verification code, which will come to your iPhone in this step. You will not be asked to enter the code again until you log out completely or erase the device.

Turn off two-factor authentication

You now have 14 days to think about whether you really want to use two-factor authentication. After this period, you will no longer be able to turn it off. During this time, your previous review questions are still stored with Apple. However, if you do not turn off the function within 14 days, Apple will delete your previously set questions and you will no longer be able to return to them. However, if you still want to return to the original security, just open the email confirming the activation of two-factor authentication and click the link to return to the previous settings. But don't forget that this will make your account less secure.
