If you take a good look at Apple's offer today, you will probably be interested in one of the products offered and sold that doesn't quite fit into it. Either due to its purpose or due to the year in which we find ourselves. It is an iPod Touch that is still being sold after more than twelve years. The current generation with the number 6 should get a successor this year, and an icon has appeared in the upcoming iOS 12.2 that will tell us a lot about the design with which Apple will go to the market for the seventh generation of Touch.

The current iPod Touch is riding on the design wave of the now relatively old iPhone 6. Rounded edges, several color versions, silver framing of the camera lens and huge frames around the display indicate that the 6th generation of the iPod Touch has already passed its greatest glory, and design-wise does not fit Apple's current portfolio very well. However, the upcoming generation should change that.

In the currently ongoing iOS 12.2 beta test, we managed to find an icon that depicts the iPod Touch pictogram, and if we can follow it, the new generation will receive a major visual facelift, which will bring elements known from the current generations of iPhones, i.e. the XS and XR models.

One of the few concepts of the 7th generation iPod touch (the authors are Hasan Kaymak and Ran Avni):

The novelty should thus receive an almost frameless display, which is logically linked to the removal of the Surface button. The iPod Touch will probably be the next product in Apple's range to receive Face ID, as it is unlikely that Apple would resort to moving the Touch ID sensor to another location.

The arrival of the seventh generation iPod Touch has been talked about for a long time, as various clues have appeared in developer versions of the iOS operating system for several weeks. However, no one knows when Apple will present this potential innovation. The next keynote should take place in a few weeks, but it should focus primarily on iPads. In the summer there is the classic WWDC focused more on software and then the classic September presentation with new iPhones, Apple Watch and other products. There will be a lot of opportunities for the launch of the new generation of iPod Touch this year.

Update 11. : As it turned out later, there is no such icon in the beta version of iOS 12.2, the author invented everything for the sake of publicity. So we don't know anything new about the new iPod Touch.
