Apple today announced record initial sales for the new iPhone 5, which hit Apple Store shelves on September 21st in the US, Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore. During pre-orders sold over two million new phones, in the first three days it is a record five million units.

By comparison, 4th generation iPhones sold 1,7 million and iPhone 4S over 4 million during the same period. The iPhone 5 thus became the most successful phone in Apple's history. Another big wave of interest can be expected on September 28, when the phone will go on sale in another 22 countries, including the Czech Republic and Slovakia. However, with prices with our operators it won't be so happy, we are still waiting to see what prices Apple will list on its Czech e-shop. In addition to record sales, the Californian company also announced that more than 100 million iOS devices currently have the latest iOS 6 operating system installed. Tim Cook also commented on the record sales:

“The demand for iPhone 5 is incredible and we are doing everything we can to get iPhone 5 to everyone who is interested as soon as possible. Although we have sold out of the initial stock, stores continue to regularly receive additional deliveries, so customers can still order online and receive the phone in the estimated time (estimated in weeks on the Apple Online Store, editor's note). We appreciate all customers' patience and are working hard to make enough iPhone 5s for everyone."
