Asus has unveiled a new monitor targeting a similar clientele to Apple with its super-expensive Pro Display XDR. The new Asus ProArt PA32UCG will not offer exactly the same functions as the Apple monitor - it is slightly worse in some parameters, but slightly better in others.

Asus ProArt PA32USG has, like the Apple monitor, a 32" diagonal with a maximum brightness level of 1600 nits. However, the monitor from Apple will offer 6K resolution, while the model from Asus "only" classic 4K. However, the higher frame rate that the panel is capable of displaying plays in ProArt's favor. While the Apple Pro Display XDR has a panel with a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz, the model from Asus reaches twice that, i.e. 120Hz. Along with a higher refresh rate, the monitor from Asus is also equipped with FreeSync technology.

Asus ProArt naturally supports HDR, namely all three of the most widespread standards, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision. A total of 1 sectors with mini LED backlighting will ensure high-quality color rendering and deep black. The 152-bit panel supports both DCI-P10 wide color gamut and Rec. 3. Each of the monitors will undergo comprehensive testing and calibration directly at the factory, so the user should unpack the product from the box completely prepared and set up.

As far as the interface is concerned, the monitor has a pair of Thunderbolt 3 connectors, supplemented by one DisplayPort, three HDMI connectors and a built-in USB hub. Asus guarantees both a maximum short-term brightness of 1600 nits, but like Apple also a standard, permanently available brightness of 1000 nits. Apple needs a special design and active cooling to achieve this value. Asus reportedly manages it with a relatively conventional chassis and a smaller cooling system.

The price of the product has not yet been announced, but Asus plans to launch it sometime in the first quarter of this year. Until then, interested parties will certainly receive additional information. It can be expected that a stand will be included with this monitor, which will be a significant advantage compared to Apple.
