Protect your own castle from raids by attackers using all kinds of weapons and spells. Well, I've already seen it somewhere. Anyway, Army of Darkness Defense by Backflip Studios is no ordinary castle defense game. This is an extraordinary title that brings a huge amount of fun to our machines. All of this is based on the movie of the same name ("Deadly Evil" in Czech), a lesser-known but cult film from which the game borrowed most of its funny phrases in addition to its theme.

What this game will be about is hinted right in the introduction. Your task as a knight-hero is to protect the book hidden in your castle. The book is sacred and whoever owns it can invoke evil with the help of the curses contained in it. Against you will be an army of enemies in the form of skeletons, zombies and other monsters, who will attack you gradually in waves. Since the hero alone would not stand a chance, he can call his allies to his side in the form of infantrymen, archers, mages, etc. The main hero is also no stranger to knowledge of black magic, so you can eliminate hordes of enemies with fire arrows, thrown boulders or simply run them over with a specially modified demolition a vehicle with a huge killer propeller.

But to make it not so easy, you don't have all the spells and fighters at your disposal right from the start. Everything will be unlocked over time, and you have to earn it first - with money that drops from killed enemies. If you want to progress faster and easier in the game, the game also offers the option of buying gold coins in the form of In-App Purchase, in amounts from 0,79 euro to 19,99 euro.

As for the controls, everything is perfect. Touch the right half of the display to move to the right, touch the left to go left. The icons in the lower left and upper right corners show the available spells that you can invoke when clicked. Nothing more, nothing less.

The game features 50 levels, 10 types of enemies, 11 types of friends, 6 different spells and hours of play time. Everything is wrapped in nice 2D graphics that are optimized for the Retina display. Playing will make us enjoy the great musical accompaniment, even though it contains only two songs: Joseph LoDuca - Deathcoaster (Building the Deathcoaster), even if it is missing a bit compared to the movie, and of course we will also listen to March of the Dead, in which the famous Danny Elfman played a large part.

You can find quite a lot of similar games in the App Store, but Army of Darkness Defense will offer at least comparable or better graphics, unbeatable gameplay and a perfect atmosphere that will make you forget that any other games actually exist. And all this for the best possible price. This game is free and rightly found in the TOP 10 downloaded applications.

You can play it on all iPhones and iPods, even on the iPad.
