For the first time in the history of the App Store, Apple adjusted the prices of applications, at least in terms of euros. We already saw price increases with the launch of the third generation iPad, followed by MacBooks, iPhone 5 and now desktop Macs. The increase in price is the result of the worse exchange rate of the dollar against the euro compared to previous years. In order to maintain the level of commissions, Apple resorted to this unpopular move. So far, the price hike seemed to affect only the hardware, but now the changes have also been reflected in both App Stores. The adjusted prices look like this:

  • Tier 1 – €0,79 > 0,89 €
  • Tier 2 – €1,59 > 1,79 €
  • Tier 3 – €2,39 > 2,69 €
  • Tier 4 – €2,99 > 3,59 €
  • Tier 5 – €3,99 > 4,49 €
  • Tier 6 – €4,99 > 5,49 €
  • Tier 7 – €5,49 > 5,99 €
  • Tier 8 – €5,99 > 6,99 €
  • Tier 9 – €6,99 > 7,99 €
  • Tier 10 – €7,99 > 8,99 €
  • ...

The price increase is on average in multiples of ten cents (approx. CZK 2,50). Another consequence of the price change is that a large number of users are currently having trouble logging into the App Store.
