Musa Tariq was a social media specialist at Burberry and Nike, and has now been lured into their ranks by Apple, which appears to be changing its previously measured approach to social media. Tariq will report to Angela Ahrendts, Head of Retail, and serve as Digital Marketing Director. Thus, he should especially connect social media with retail.

It is with Ahrendts that Tariq knows well. They already worked closely together at the fashion house Burberry, where they both tried to use social media in innovative ways to promote the brand and were quite successful in doing so. Of particular note is the Tweetwalk campaign led by Tariq. Burberry tweeted photos of the latest collection just before it was unveiled by models on the catwalk, ensuring significant attention before, during and after the show.

From Burberry, Tariq moved to Nike, where until the end of July he served in the role of senior director of social media, handling collaboration with athletes across all Nike product platforms.

Your move to Apple Tariq confirmed on Twitter, where he now has a new position filled. Although the Californian company is known for its successful marketing, it is still lagging behind others in the field of social media. On Facebook and Twitter, although Apple maintains several accounts related to, for example, iTunes and the App Store, and several top managers, led by Tim Cook, have personal accounts on Twitter, but more extensive efforts to promote the brand more modernly are not visible. Tariq, who has many successful projects behind him, could work on this as well.
