In response to changes in taxes and the exchange rate of the dollar against the euro throughout the European Union, Apple has increased the prices of applications in the App Store. The cheapest paid apps now cost €0,99 (originally €0,89). The more the app cost, the more we will pay for it now.
Apple already informed developers about the upcoming change on Wednesday, stating that the changes will be reflected in the App Store in the next 36 hours. Now users in the countries of the European Union, Canada or Norway are actually recording the new prices.
The Californian company is apparently still optimizing the changes in the price list, because currently we can still find some applications in the App Store for the original 0,89 euros in addition to the new lowest value of 0,99 euros. In the Czech App Store, we could even see an unusual price of €1,14, but Apple has already changed this to €0,99. Other rates were also increased: €1,79 to €1,99 or €2,69 to €2,99, etc.
While the lowest amounts are an increase in the order of tens of cents (i.e., in the vast majority of crown units), for more expensive applications, the price increase can be manifested in a price up to several euros higher.
The European changes in the prices of applications comes just a few hours after Apple he announced a very successful entry into the new year. In the first week of 2015 alone, the App Store sold half a billion dollars worth of apps.
But today it is 8 years since the IPHONE was introduced. Thank you STEVE!!!
Will it only apply to apps, or is it a question of music and movies as well?
the Dog pissed them off
after the excellent article I read here, I started boycotting Apple...
as a long-term "applist" ..I finished the Apple...
this is just icing on the cake...
Thank the EU for that, not Apple
The EU doesn't have to thank you, the EU just changed the way of paying VAT. The price increase also affected Canada, which has nothing in common with the EU, so it's just Apple's gluttony.
And do you also distinguish between USD and CAD?? It's quite different and if the rates change, Apple reacts. Nothing new :)
??? Fact? This is new to me..if you read it again, carefully this time, you will find that I am explaining that this is not a change in the tax payment system.
Well, I understand it, that's why the price change also affects e.g. Canada when there is a different currency there and the exchange rate is different from the USD :))) So it's not Apple's lack of foresight, but the fact that Apple reacts to the exchange rates of individual currencies, such as all sellers .. do you get my post yet?
"just changed the method of paying VAT"? :) that's the important thing :)
In Ireland VAT is 23%. Thanks to the EU, Apple now has to sell things from iTunes and the App Store to people in the Czech Republic with the Czech 21% VAT. Thanks to MOOS, with minimal additional administrative burden (they pay everything to Ireland and then distribute it to the individual countries). There is certainly no reason for the increase in price, at least not immediately (when Ireland increases taxes on businesses, because it will no longer have VAT for the whole EU, then it will be different - but it is good that the EU has enforced it, the robbing of other member countries for tax optimization will finally disappear) .
I also agree with that. It is true that the price of applications is increased by a few %, but the EU selects them and from there they flow back to the EU countries. It's fairer
Did you understand that instead of 23% the tax will be only 21%? That's nothing extra, in reality it should be a few cents cheaper.
I'm afraid that's not the case. Applications were taxed uniformly at 15% (all in the Netherlands), from now on it will be according to individual countries, i.e. 21% for us -> an increase of 6%
I'm sorry, you're right.
OK, this should be mentioned mainly in the article, because then most people will understand it as making Apple more expensive of its own volition (see discussion below)
I understand that Jablíčkář is not an economic website, but to mention 2 percent, 2 countries and the term "exchange rate" and "tax" should be there... otherwise it's misleading
The title of the article is a lie.
