Apple entered the new year in all its glory. In just the 3rd week of 2023, he introduced a trio of new products, i.e. MacBook Pro, Mac mini and HomePod (2nd generation). But let's stay with apple computers. Although they did not bring much news with them, their fundamental change consists in the deployment of newer chipsets from the second generation of Apple Silicon. The Mac mini is therefore available with the M2 and M2 Pro chips, while the 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros can be configured with the M2 Pro and M2 Max. Practically all basic or entry models into the world of Macs are now available with the new generation of Apple chips. Up to 24″ iMac. With him, on the other hand, it seems that Apple has slightly forgotten about him.

The current 24″ iMac, which is powered by the M1 chip, was introduced to the world in April 2021, practically right behind the initial trio from November 2020 – MacBook Air, 13″ MacBook Pro and Mac mini. Since then, however, it hasn't undergone any changes, so there is still one and the same model on sale. On the other hand, it is necessary to mention that at that time it underwent a rather fundamental transformation. Instead of a 21,5″ display, Apple opted for a 24″ display, made the entire device even thinner and gave it a fundamental makeover. But when will we see a successor and what would we like to see in him?

Mac mini inspiration

Since the relatively major design change came only recently, nothing would have to change in terms of appearance. Apple, on the other hand, should focus on the so-called guts. According to apple users, it would be best if Apple took inspiration from the recently introduced Mac mini and started delivering its 24″ iMac in two configurations, i.e. the basic one and the new high-end device. He has the means to do so, so he just needs to get things going. If an iMac equipped with not only the M2 chip but also the M2 Pro were to hit the market, it could be the perfect device for more demanding users who need a professional chipset for their work. Unfortunately, these apple growers are a bit forgotten. Until now, they had only one device to choose from – the MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip – but if they wanted to use it as a regular desktop, they had to invest in a monitor and other equipment.

Of course, with the arrival of the new Mac mini, a quality alternative is finally offered. The problem, however, is that even in this case, the situation is the same as the aforementioned MacBook Pro. Again, it is necessary to purchase a quality monitor and accessories. In short, Apple's offer lacks a professional all-in-one desktop. According to supporters, it is precisely these holes in the menu that need to be filled and such devices brought to the market.

Is the iMac worthy of the M2 Max chip?

Some fans would like to take it to a higher level in the form of deploying an even more powerful M2 Max chipset. In this direction, however, we are already reaching a different type of device, namely the previously known iMac Pro. But the truth is that something like this would certainly not be harmful. Coincidentally, there has been talk for a long time about the return of this Apple all-in-one computer, which could build on the same pillars (premium design, maximum performance), but only replace the processor from Intel with a professional chipset from the Apple Silicon family. In that case, it is time to bet on M2 Max to M2 Ultra chips, following the example of Mac Studio.

In that case, it would also be worth tweaking the design. The current 24″ iMac (2021) is available in various colors, which may not look completely professional for everyone. Therefore, Apple users agree that it would be best to use a universal design in the form of space gray or silver. At the same time, everyone would also like to see a slightly larger display, preferably with a 27″ diagonal. But when we will finally see the updated iMac or the new iMac Pro is still unclear. At the moment, attention is mainly focused on the arrival of the Mac Pro with Apple Silicon.
