Apple today filed a lawsuit against virtualization software company Corellium. Apple doesn't like that one of Corellium's products is basically a perfect copy of the iOS operating system.

Corellium allows its users to virtualize the iOS operating system, which is especially useful for various security experts and hackers who can more easily examine the security and operation of the operating system at the lowest level. According to Apple, Corellium is committing a blatant misuse of their intellectual property for its own use and economic gain.

Apple is mainly bothered by the fact that Corellium allegedly copied almost the entire iOS operating system. From the source code, through the user interface, icons, functioning, simply the entire environment. In this way, the company practically profits from something that does not belong to it, because it connects several of its products with this virtualized version of iOS, the prices of which can climb up to a million dollars a year.

In addition, Apple is also bothered by the fact that the terms of use do not state that users must report found bugs to Apple. Corellium thus essentially offers a stolen product, which can also be monetized on the black market at the expense of Apple as such. Apple doesn't mind its operating systems being scrutinized in good faith for bugs and security flaws. However, the behavior mentioned above is beyond tolerable, and Apple has thus decided to resolve the whole situation through legal means.

The lawsuit seeks to shut down Corellium, freeze sales, and force the company to notify its users that its actions and services offered are illegal with respect to Apple's intellectual property.
