This week it came to light that a handful of developers were spamming the App Store with duplicate VoIP calling apps. This clearly violated the App Store's app review rules. Server TechCrunch today he came with the news that Apple started a fight against dishonest developers and began to mass delete some of these applications in the App Store.

However, according to available reports, a number of duplicate applications in other categories continue to remain in the App Store – for example, applications for printing photos. MailPix Inc. has released three different apps, but they all offer the same photo printing services while waiting at CVS or Walgreens stores, and they all work in pretty much the same way.

At first glance, different applications, but their functionality is identical:

By releasing a duplicate application on the App Store, developers artificially increase their chances that their application will be found and downloaded in the search, and in different applications of the same kind, they use different names, categories and keywords for the sake of a higher probability of finding.

But the main problem is that Apple is not very consistent in emphasizing compliance with app approval rules. They clearly state that spamming the online app store can lead to expulsion from the developer program.

There are millions of apps in the App Store right now, and it's easy for a few duplicates to slip through the cracks. But the company should now start putting even more emphasis on violating the rules for app approval.
