Are you among die-hard fans of apple computers and the words Microsoft, Windows or Office are dirty to you? If you answered yes to this question, I don't have good news for you. Today, without any announcement or conference, Apple started selling Macs with a pre-installed Windows operating system. Luckily, macOS users don't have to worry.

At the end of last year, we saw the introduction of the very first Macs with M1 chips - namely the MacBook Air, 13″ MacBook Pro and Mac mini. Since then, we haven't seen any updates to the Apple computer fleet, until today. While many of us have been waiting for the traditional spring conference for a long time, it looks like we won't see it at all, and WWDC21 will be the first conference this year. Apple just released a press release in its Newsroom a while ago informing all fans that it has joined forces with Microsoft. If we take the important thing from this report, we will find that when buying a new Mac or MacBook with M1 you have to choose whether you want to use Windows or macOS. There is no "choice in between" and once you choose, there is no going back.

Due to the fact that the latest M1 chips use a different architecture compared to Intel processors, it was not possible to run Windows via Boot Camp on them until today. However, it turned out that this was only a software barrier that Apple prepared to come up with a new sales model. If you currently go to apple.cz and open the profile of any Apple computer with an M1 chip, models with the Windows operating system will also appear in addition to classic models with macOS. Apple has strictly divided the two versions in this way so that the difference is immediately clear and that there is no confusion during configuration.

As for the price, all Macs and MacBooks with Windows are three thousand crowns more expensive, because in addition to the device itself, you also have to pay for a license for Windows. In terms of hardware, everything remains the same - in the basic configurations, you get an Apple Silicon chip labeled M1 and 8 GB of RAM, which you can expand up to 16 GB. The basic SSD has a size of 256 GB, expansion is gradually possible up to 2 TB. So the MacBook Air, 13″ MacBook Pro and Mac mini are currently available with Windows. For example, the basic configuration of a MacBook Air with macOS will cost you CZK 29, and the version with Windows will cost you CZK 990. Interestingly, Apple is only selling these Apple computers with Windows pre-installed today - so this is a limited April Fool's edition. Be sure to check the calendar to see what the date is today!
