Themes called Fire, Water, Liquid Metal and Vapor. New watch faces with stunning graphics are adapted to the larger display of the latest Apple smartwatch. We had a brief look at the shape of the new dials at the launch of the Apple Watch Series 4 as part of this year's September Keynote, now we have the opportunity to look not only at the dials, but also to look behind the scenes of their creation.
Alan Dye, vice president of user interface design at Apple, revealed that the elements from the individual watch faces were not computer generated, but were real high-definition footage, depicting real fire, water and other elements. The footage was taken in Apple's special laboratories - you can watch the entire process in the following video.
Dye says that his team could have used an easier option in the form of digitizing animations when creating the new dials, but they decided to shoot for real. According to Dye, this speaks, among other things, to the way the design team works: they always strive for the best and use all their talents to do so. In addition to the aforementioned watch faces, owners of the latest Apple Watch Series 4 will also have access to the Infograph watch face and the redesigned Modular. The watchOS 5 operating system will also offer several new watch faces.
Apple Watch Series 4 will go on sale in the Czech Republic on September 29.
It's a shame they didn't use that attention to detail when ditching the phone/iPad UI layout in iOS 12.
